    I wouldn't call it doubling / splitting. You have to restart in between. Remove culture from container / clean add back culture and fresh salt than add more f/2

    Just make sure you're sterilizing the container to some degree before you start and after each split. You really shouldnt need to add more f/2 Also make sure you're starting 1:1 this is the most important part

    Jon, It could have been the reagent you were using, try the old tester with the new reagent. I agree with the above though, always have a cheaper secondary test kit on standby for times like this. It is also possible your tank is starting to mature further and consume more alk.
