Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
One year old marineland reef ready tank. Minimum scratches but has plenty of coraline. Screen top. DIY stand (RC style) not skinned. Plumbing for the overflow.
Just think it will be a real PITA once your tank has been running and develop a leak.
I run a second pump with manifold. So only one extra outlet. It will be easier to manage than one big system.
Just a thought when you re-do your plumbing. Get rid of the manifold. Just a T to the returns. Much simpler and less gluing. You have a lot of joins in a tight space. Use flex. Easy to cut in place if you need to redo part of the plumbing. Use another pump for your reactor/refugium.
I tested this again and it works great. I have it setup so that it will email my regular email account and text my phone. My wireless carrier T-mobile provides an email for my phone number. When an email is sent it texts me.
Strongly suggest this setup if you dose with apex!
Now that I have a dedicated refugium I want make the most out of it.
Do you clean your refugium (besides removing overgrown macro) or let it grow wild? There are algae on glass now (not diatom).
Do you add pods to the refugium? I don't see a lot in mine. I have Cheato and some live rocks...
Mine have been working great. Never owned Vortech so can't compare. But the RW series pumps are better than the WP series. Wider flow and all areas of the tank are covered with nice flow. There is still dead spot but it's not a big concern for me. I am sure it can be better but I have no desire...
Look at the one in the front. It's like this:
Tank -> bulkhead -> flex pvc -> slip/slip adapter -> hard pvc.
The hard pvc part is what's under water. no need to glue to the adapter.
the slip/slip adapter is the part above the tank.
There is an extra adapter in the picture because i...
That sump looks incredible. One day I will get one ...
Now here's how I plumbed the drain. I use a slip/slip join and flex pvc for this. This allows me to easily pull out the return to remove the filter socks.
It's too far for me I hope you find someone local. If you can't then get a used tank or a piece of glass to practice. It's a lot easier than you think, especially with the guide. Just drill one hole you'll know.
Be patient let the drill bit do the work. Push very slightly. Have a cup of water...
Bought a rainbow monti and rainbow acan. I guess I am in the rainbow phase. Great selections and prices. The rainbow acan didn't look like a rainbow but I took marks word for it. In my tank it colored up in a couple of hours all kind of color came out. Very happy with the purchase.
Mine have ribbed shell. So they're the dumb kind :)
Do Nerites do anything Astrea don't do? I have been losing Nerites every once a while, maybe due to old age but I rarely see a dead astrea so it's more durable.
