    Horseplay's 105g Rimless

Put in a few pieces to test the water. Corals look like a million bucks after only 2 hours. Phone picture does not do justice. Very impressed with the light fixture. Color is just incredible only running 20% LED coral plus + 4 T5 bulbs. The rock has been in the sump for a long time now the...

    Horseplay's 105g Rimless

Mark, with the Herbie the water level in the overflow box is at the emergency drain level. There is a small amount of flow needed, maybe 50gph to keep the water level stable. I did try to run the emergency drain dry then the siphon drain will alternate between full siphon and regular flow. When...

    Horseplay's 105g Rimless

With the transfer I have connected the new tank with the current tank. So there are now two sumps and two DT's running with the old sump as the lowest sump. The new water has 11.2 dkh vs 7.2 of the current tank. So it will be a shock to the corals. With the two systems connected I can slowly mix...

    Horseplay's 105g Rimless

Here' the journal for my new build. I am hoping this will be it for a few years. My first reef tank, a 75g in the basement has been doing well so we decided to setup a show tank in the family room. I will be using most of the equipments from the current 75g setup. A few things worth mentioning...

    Dan's 150 Rebuild

I believe in the theory that ich will always be on a fish it just rear its ugly head when the fish is sick or stressed. So in a sense you will never get rid of it.

    Eheim Jager heater owners!

The Jagger's can be calibrated which means you can move the temp dial to match a know benchmark. I never look at the temp markings when using a new heater. They are almost never accurate. I wait for the temperature to rise to what I want then turn the heater dial enough to shut it down. By doing...

    Dan's 150 Rebuild

I don't quarantine so sometimes new fish will come in with ich after a few days. But I never lost a fish because of it. The ich is gone after a few days. So I never worry about it. Fish get healthy then ich is gone. That just my two cents. Of course all my fish are common and cheaper ones.

Show me pics of your SPS!

Currently 0.06. I have been running with undetectable P04 but about a month ago I had some problem with chaeto dying off due to lack of maintenance so its consumption of nutrients has slowed down somewhat. Seems to have no effect on growth as the consumption rate of alk has not reduced due to...

Interested in how the coral-shop stuff works. Glue some shelves to the back glass will be pretty cool.

Bare bottom aka BB is the best :)

I removed sand a few months ago and totally love it. The bottom is now totally covered with coraline and the Kole Tang keep it free of algae/diatom. It's personal preference aesthetically but it's definitely easier to maintain. Only thing is not able to keep some of the sand dwelling fish.

    The 210 tank build

When I cured rocks I used Brightwell PhosphatE. I know it is not a long term solution but after two applications the rocks were no longer leaching PO4.
