What makes a $300 sump better than a $30 diy?

You are making the assumption that the person has the tools and materials to make the 30$ sump.

Trials and tribulations of my 125 Gallon build

Very impressive build and good catch on the rust. Sometimes we learn things the hard way in this hobby.

    Acrylic or glass

One of the major drawback to acrylic is that is can scratch more easily than glass. So something to think about if you want sand. Three sided viewing, I personally like the low iron (starphire) glass as it is just really clear and nice. Have you gotten quotes on building a tank yet? There...

    Red Sea 130D AIO

I would not go totally crazy with the minor trace elements. Iodine is important for inverts but just be careful with it because you can overdose it. I got the Titan test done so it is cool to see the comparison. Thanks for posting.

    Acrylic or glass

Each material has its strength and weaknesses. What sort of system are you building out, what are the dimensions, where is it going, what are you planning on putting in it? Once you know what you really want to do with it, it will make the choice easier.

    Sunny's 600 Gallon Build

Glad you came back into the hobby and that will be a beast of a tank. If I was aquascaping that tank, I would do basically like a pyramid of live rock dead center in the tank which slopes outwards. Leave yourself plenty of room to the glass to add in little island of live rock. I think it...

    Centerpiece Fish

A big old wrasse would look awesome in there and be reef safe. Look at the anampses wrasses. They are bigger but are stunners (lennardi, feminus). Also if you want a bit smaller but awesome, get a pair of flasher wrasses, they are stunning when they flash.

Thinking of returning to the hobby

Glad to see you back, we are still here if you need any help. Good news is while you have been gone they found a cure for bryopsis so you don't have to worry about it any more. If you are posting this you know you want back in. We don't have any AOI kicking around but we have like a 30g tank...

    Trop closing?

I was told that the large display fish and corals were going to service companies who have the clients for those sort of fish. We would have loved a few of them but they were all spoken for.

    Trop closing?

We popped in there today and it was actually depressing. We have been customers there as long as I have been in the hobby and they have always been a great store. We grabbed a few of the remaining fish but there is like maybe a pair of clowns left. Dry goods are real spotty, probably not...
