Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
What kinds of corals and what are you feeding?
Some NPS corals cannot digest the food fast enough and can die off from over feeding. As others have mentioned, water params are important to monitor when you start feeding something new.
I think that was the reason we did not setup the basket and passed it along. If we had kept the tank long term (we gave it to Karen when we won a tank at MACNA), we would have replaced the skimmer and run the basket. The baskets really do help.
After adding a bigger fuge to my setup, and talking to people who have done the same recently, I would recommend that direction. I tried the egg crate in the sump type thing and as other said it was not enough. I would look at the algae scrubbers/reactors out there and give one a try. I also...
Glad to see this tank is still going, you are the 4th NJRC person to have it (that I know of). I am not a modder but, could you use the kessil gooseneck fitting on the back of the tank to avoid handing it from the ceiling and then cut a whole in the lid for it?
The skimmer is know to not be...
We have had nano tanks for years and one of the biggest issues is salinity if you do not have an ato. Given the small volume of water, salinity can swing quickly which is not good for your fish and corals. Tiny clowns can be tough because feeding them can be difficult. Hopefully he was just...
Really cool setup and very nice on setting up your own controller. I am a big fan of the kessil light on our nano, seems like they do very well for you too.
30 hours is a close call, at that point I would have wwc ship them to you when you got home. Or arrange to go before you head to the airport, it is kind of on the way.
Yes we have flown corals home before and we did it through our checked luggage. We got a Styrofoam container and packed it on our trips to MACNA and just put the corals in there. We did not have any troubles although we did get a TSA notification that they were searched. IIRC you are going to...
I don't think it has to do with sponsorship, it just has to do with expectations. If you want to put in all the work maintaining it, then go for it. However, realize if you do not replace it annually it will become a detritus trap and it will raise your nitrates and phosphates. So you have to...
It is not far from the airport at all and close to Disney as well. We usually always stop there as their display tanks really are a site to see. Obviously being able to buy stuff is nice as well.
I second the go for it!
Couple of quick notes:
1. I would at least treat the wood with something for water proofing given the abuse it will receive over time. I am sure you can go with something clear but I would do something.
2. Look at the glass holes overflow kits, they would be perfect...
