    Matt's 57g rimless build

Thanks for the link, I just finished reading it. I'm not going to do a DSB. I'm aiming for 1.5-2" deep. I'm going to do some soft corals and lps. mnat - How many barnacle blennies did you have? Thanks

    Matt's 57g rimless build

I've thought A LOT about stocking haha. I'm still not sure what all I can fit. I like the idea of lots of fish so there's a lot of activity. For sure I know I will have: -2 black ice clowns (they are small now - 1") -1 ORA orchid Dottyback (so far there is no aggression from him) -1 yellow...

    Matt's 57g rimless build

The overflow sump set up I ended up with. The only difference is I installed a gate valve on the tube leading to the right. The right side will be for the refugium, and the left side will be for the protein skimmer. I battled through a couple of different set ups to get to a quieter sump...

    Matt's 57g rimless build

57g deep blue tank I took the original overflow off, and cut the sides half the depth they originally were. It was a real pain since the plastic overflow was superglued to a piece of glass. But the end result I'm very happy with. Much more room than there originally was.

    Matt's 57g rimless build

I figure its time to get my tale of the tank started! I had started a thread on another forum, but being able to interact locally is much better. Because of a move I can't officially get started until April 1, but that hasn't stopped me from trying to get things planned out. Tank specs are...

    Pukani/BRS cooking rock question

I'm currently not testing any levels. Just made sure salinity was right. When I first got the rocks I dipped them each in muriatic acid for a couple of minutes and then hosed them off. Whenever I do a water change out of my nano (5 gallons every 2 weeks), I use the old water from my nano, and...

    Pukani/BRS cooking rock question

Maybe cooking isn't the right word, but I've got a mixture of the pukani and BRS rock in the tank pictured. It's been like this for about a month now. There is just a small powerhead, heater and air stone. Also there is a clump of cheato in there as well. The thought being with the light...

Thanks for the replies. I'll reach out to reef cleaners and see what they suggest for the start up period.

Clean up crew for 57g plan

It will be. I've got rock that's been curing in a tank for about 4 weeks now, and will be using new sand.

    DIY Nano Cube Canopy

Thanks, I always have a tough time finding things at Lowes/HD. Never know if something is in hardware, or electrical, or some other random stand in an aisle that doesn't belong.

    DIY Nano Cube Canopy

Hey quick question. Where do you find those cord mgmt things (don't know a better way to describe them)? They are the little plastic things screwed down holding the cords? Thanks

Need help finding QUIETEST protein skimmer

Sump will be in a closed cabinet. For reference I tried a mag 7 return pump and found that way too loud, it had such a persistent hum to it that reverberated across the room. I switched to a Sicce 3.0 and can't even hear that pump. Seems like the SWC 160 is a popular choice. The SWC 120...

Need help finding QUIETEST protein skimmer

I've come across lots of threads about "best" skimmer, or "best cheapest" skimmer, but honestly for me the most important thing is that the skimmer is quiet since it will be in my sump in stand. I know I know it's probably not the best attribute to have at the top of my list, but it will be in...

    Kent Nautilus TE protein skimmer

I really can't find much info on this protein skimmer I picked up with some other stuff. There isn't a pump with it. If someone was interested I would trade for cool zoa or euphyllia frags. Or $50?? I don't really know if there's a market for this...

    2 Dwarf Angels in 57g

Yes I'll have corals. Odds aren't in my favor either to get two angels that both leave corals alone.
