I had the same problem with mine, I solved it by slowing down the draining. I added a few 90's on the end of the drain pipe in the sump and the problem went away immediately.
I tagged along with them for my first trip to Mr. Coral this past weekend, and what a place. From the outside it looks quite small, but Sonny has to have the biggest selection of corals I have seen under one roof. He was very eager to please and willing to frag anything I needed. His prices are...
Maybe I was thinking one thing and saying another when I started this topic. What I was trying to say is I can see the sand pieces in the water column. Its not cloudy like a new cycled tank, but rather looks like small pieces of white sand following the current. Each piece of sand can be seen...
Thanks for the reply, however, I am not suffering from cloudy water. The tank has been up and running for about 3 years now, and nothing has been added that would cause a cycle. The tank is equipped with a Aqua C Urchin pro skimmer rated for 120gal, and has a sump with a filter sock.
I highly...
I have a 90 gallon mixed reef with 60# of Caribbean Sand and about 40# of Florida crushed coral as my substrate. The problem being I get a lot of "fine dust" (for lack of a better word) in the water column that never seems to settle. I have tried everything I can think of to remedy this, but no...
I just got a steal on a K2R Calcium Reactor, however no manual available online or from seller. I contacted the maker, but no response.
Does anyone have one of these that can give me a heads up on setting it up and adjusting it?
Thanks in advance.
Still haven't decided on the last to bulbs. I am looking for an even balance of growth and color. I see they make lights in 10k, 11k, 12k, 15k, 20k.
On the tank already I have:
ge 6500
giesemann aqua blue
giesemann pure actinic
ge 6500
What is the recommendation for the final 2 bulbs?
Keep...
Well it is in and shinning bright, but more yellow then I would like it. I think the 2x 6500k bulbs are doing it. I actually like the color coming from the giesemann aqua blue the best.
Note to others, if you go with the Tek retro, buy some wire. They made the wires so all the ballasts have to...
I will be getting the 3rd fixture this week, for 2 more bulbs. What do you recommend? Maybe 2 more 6500k?
This is the info I was using:
ATI German T5 HO Sun Full Spectrum 6500K: ideally suited to full spectrum use for growth of SPS and also works great when used in a 1:1 ratio with either the...
I bought 2 kits, 3rd to come when budget allows.
The 4 bulbs I went with:
ge 6500
giesemann aqua blue
giesemann pure actinic
ge 6500
I will probably go with the giesemann actinic + for the next 2 bulbs.
You make a great point. "save money by not trying to save money". I guess I will go with the T-5 from TFJ. I would like to get 6 bulbs under the canopy, but I only have 16" to work with. :'( I am sure I can make something fit.
The seller said it is made in USA by a company called Catalina Aquarium. And the unit is UL listed. http://www.catalinaaquarium.com/index.php
Looks like they use the same exact ballast as tek retros.
Guess it is all down to the reflector.
Can someone give me their take on this light that was brought to my attention by another member?
