Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
This concern bothers me. Have someone else test your alk numbers. My thought is that your test kit is off and you've alk-burnt the tank. But just a guess.
As they said in The Graduate, "I just want to say one word to you. Just one word. Plastics! There's a great future in plastics."
All the sumps I've built have been with either acrylic or polycarbonate. Just make sure you use plenty of silicone.....pretty doesn't count.
I think we forget that they are damsels....the bullies of the fish world.
I thought I had a non-aggressive pair until I attempted to clean out the hair algae in my sump (where they reside). They were hosting the hair algae. As soon as I approached the hair algae with a scraper, I was...
Nice video! And wow!!!! That's a ton of acid!
Now here's my theory....and I'd like Earl to help me prove or disprove my theory.....and hope he will test post acid-dip if he's still getting phosphates. I believe that acid dipping is a nice way to reduce the amount of rock you have, and...
The tank looks great Juan. Very nice.
I too have an Atmann on my SWC skimmer and had similar problems. What I did was put two or three plastic washers (I think teflon, from HD) on the shaft between the face plate and impeller head. I suspect the mesh was slightly protruding from the...
So I pulled a Homer double DOH! today when I went to my local oriental market (H Mart), to purchase more algae.
I'd figure I'd mix it up and try dried kelp, and a different brand of sushi algae then what I usually buy.
I first tried the kelp with the fish, and no one has touched...
The question I have is, what's your alk? If kalk can't keep your calcium up, than your alk has got to be down there too. Test you alk as well....and if kalk can't keep both up (and that's what I suspect), than dose!
I think this is a tremendous cause, but Williamsport is where they play the Little League World Series....that's a trip!! The 400+ mile round trip is the killer for me.
Welcome Scott. If you haven't done so, start a Tale of the Tank. It's a great place to let everyone know what you have as well as ask questions. Again, Welcome.
Praveen, easy to tell them apart.....the "original" MJ's have printing on the body and a white impeller. The Chinese have embossed/raised printing on the back, with a purple impeller.
EDIT TO ADD:
I found a ReefBreeders article describing the differences HERE.
I've been meaning to switch out the MAG 9.5 return pump I have for a DC pump. I was fortunate enough to win a DC pump at NJ-RAP (I know it was listed as NY, but it was in NJ). I put the ticket in just seeing "DC Pump," and didn't take note of the specs. It was a DeepWater DC10.
THIS...
George, you need to provide me your inlaws phone number....they got ripped off. Since Trex is made of 50% recylced wood and 50% recycled plastic, they should have only paid for half the costs. :o And I'm not sure when the "plastic" anniversary is. Oh, and Happy Anniversary.
Wow Mark, you have a big fish tank with a diving board! The next years MACNA is announced at the present years MACNA. So they are most likely taking applications for 2017 now (but don't tell Ed.)
