I have bare bottom in the display and a sand bed in the refugium. Best of both worlds!

Joel, welcome to the club! There are a lot of members with great advice, feel free to ask. I look forward to your tale of the tank....hint, hint. Looks like Christmas has set you off to an excellent start. My advice is to go slow, patience and be consistent/habitual with maintenance. Cheers, Pete.

Agree about the phosphates being too high. The specific Gravity is also low. You want at least1.025 for coral. Is your ro/di water carrying in the phosphates? Check your output ppm on the ro/di. What foods do you feed and how much/often? You may be adding more nutrients than your media can...

Amazing job!!! One question though, is the backside of the canopy open? If not, you will need more ventilation as condensation from warmer water will wreak havoc on your lights.

When drilling, all the fine glass particulate is going in your tank once you start to cut through the glass wall. Guaranteed disaster! Take the time, do the transfer.

At 27 gal, why not do a temporary transfer. Not worth the risk.IMO
