Depends on your water volume. I have a couple of pumps buried inside the rock work. They come on every 20 minutes on top of the hour during the day. That keeps anything from accumulating in the aquascape.

Marine Depot - To be honest you need to slow down the assembly video for the skimmer. Read a few comments that there were no assembly instructions and the video was too fast :)
