If he has valves plumbed to restrict the overflow, he can run it like I do based on the BeanAnimal thread on RC. You submerge the one return and let it start a siphon. Then you restrict it untl a small amount of water flows into the second overflow.

Just because you have more overflow capacity doesn't mean you have to use it. At least not right away. You can delay the pump upgrade for a bit. I have a korallia2 and a seio 620 you can use in the meantime.
