Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
I would. Stay away from high end SPS that demand pristine water conditions and you'll be OK. Also, don't increase the fish load too much. I would rethink the Heniochus as well. If you do get the proper species that doesn't eat coral, it will eventually outgrow the 40.
Congratulations on the upgrade and welcome to NJRC.
What are your plans for stocking the new tank?
What and how much you plan on keeping determines what you need to do filtration wise.
Will this be a reef or fish only system?
If you bioload isn't high and you keep up with water changes,you...
Re: Here's my 120
Bax mentioned that one of the clams appeared to have come with a parasite. Freshwater dip is the preferred method of most when parasites are suspected. Sounds like it might be working.
What kind of clowns? All the same?
2 pairs of clowns competing for one host anemone might provide some interesting moments.
I'm not familiar with Strawberry crabs, I'd be nervous about most crabs and corals.
Anemones and corals can work, but be prepared for the 'nem to move around when you...
I have one cuke in my 75 and one in my 55 reef for over two years. I have the ones that Reeftopia sells.
Harlequinreef raises a great point about focusing on cleanup critters that don't eat the microfauna. A healthy population of microfauna is essential to running the deeper sandbeds.
I think it bears repeating frequently! ;)
I've also been concerned lately with the number of folks posting on this board asking for information about a coral they have already purchased and admit to knowing nothing about.
We do keep living things in our tanks and when we bring them into our...
Here is the latest revision of the bill in question. The last line which states it will take effect in the 2050 is probably a good indication that it's dead.
The first few pages are interesting reading. I like the approach they are taking of reserving 30%-35% of the coastline for safe zones. It...
Can't believe a sand thread escaped my attention, twice!
For a cleanup crew I like a mix of a cucumber, cerith snails and nassarius snails.
I agree it's probably cyano and not coralline algae on top of the bed.
You have to be careful when you siphon sand from a deep bed, you can release...
Interesting, I've never heard the concept discussed of favoring one type of growth over the other; flesh vs. skeleton.
I'm curious why you would do it and how?
It seems to me that the best approach is balanced, natural growth.
What are the advantages to the other approaches for the coral?
It's not uncommon for them to hide for a couple of days.
They are jumpers and very good at finding holes in you cover, so make sure you keep an eye out for escape routes!
