Flatten out the netting and let it sit at room temperature for a day and then heat it gently with a hair dryer to ensure it lays flat. It's much easier to work with that way. Also, buy the clear and not the black.

I use a mixture of Formula One and Two pellets.

I use the Apex AFS now but I used the Eheim one in the past and it was fine.

Did you check the flow right from the pump? Snails in the return line drastically reduce flow.
