Nope. I run a 65 without one and a small nano without one as well. You'll want to keep up with good sized water changes if you're going to keep anything challenging. With softies & LPS they're pretty tolerant of less than spectacular water quality so it isn't as much of an issue.

You just never know where conversations are going to go around here. Thanks for the catalyst. LOL! Koralia 1 is useless. Weekly water changes and LPS you might get away without a skimmer. SPS and you'll surely want a skimmer, carbon, PO4 removal, ... Lighting is adequate.

There seems to be no ill effects on corals or fish. You only need to bump it up (not all at once, but in 100 steps) long enough to kill the outbreak. After that you can let it come back down naturally.

Increasing your magnesium up over 1500 will fix that. Do it now before it takes over the tank!

Just bear in mind that the solution is going to have a PH up around 14 when you create it, so be careful with it. Keep your hands out of it, don't pour any leftovers into the tank, yada yada.
