I realize I can put whatever in there. I just didn't know what my options were at this point considering the current issues I have. I didn't want to put something in there and have it die b/c the tank is too hot, or b/c lighting isn't right, or salinity keeps fluctuating whenever I top off the...
So my tank has been cycling for about 3-4 weeks now.
While I'm trying to get my tank temp to lower than 81 degrees, waiting for my auto top-off, and upgraded lighting...Is there anything I can put in my tank, so that I have something to look at when I come home other than just LR, LS, and...
Does a fan blowing air on top of a sump really help? I know it depends on the surrounding air, but how many degrees are really dropped? My tank has not seen a temp below 81deg.
Good one Carlo. I was thinking the same thing. Although your closet surely beats having your sump outside on the side of your tank.
That is one crazy setup. I can't begin to call myself a reefkeeper compared to all these insane setups. I'm waiting for the picture of the reefkeeper who is scuba...
I actually took the output tube out. If I put it in, even at it's lowest point, I skim wet. I'm going to try to raise the skimmer high enough to see if with the tube in, I can skim dry and then will try the 1/8 approach as it seems a good way to solve it.
Still a no go for my skimmer. If I let it run wet, eventually the bubbles take the lid off. If I run it the other way, the bubbles don't reach the neck and the cup stays empty. I have let each option run for a full 24 hours.
I see dirt, but it's right before the neck. I'll wait till tomorrow to see if the bubbles don't make it up, then I'll put the skimmer a little deeper in the water to see if that helps. If not, I guess I will have to skim wet although I was hoping this wouldn't be the guess by getting a brand...
I have a Euroreef ES-4 and no matter how I play with it, I can't get it to skim dry. It either overflows the cup or the bubbles never make it up to the neck.
I've put it in 4"-10" of water and no luck. The output part, I have removed the two plastic tubes, and that's when the bubbles don't...
Okay. So then would it be okay, to raise the water level to be about 2" higher than my dividers? The water would still go through the baffles to remove any bubbles.
It's a used HOB overflow that I bought from a member, yes will just the one bulkhead and a sponge over the tube.
The overflow is new to my tank. I have been running it on and off for about a week now. Tomorrow I'm going to Lowes to give the 2nd version of the stockman pipe a try.
At the moment, that's what I did, I put the skimmer on top of some round tupperware. I was skimming wet and now I'm skimming nothing at all. Will have to do some more trial and error.
I really hated cutting the optix and caulking it into place, so I'm dreading having to add an extension piece...
I was just reading that and http://www.rl180reef.com/pages/standpipe/standpipe-ken_stockman.htm
No room in my overflow box for the first one and not sure I totally understand how the second one works.
It's great that I don't even hear the motors for everything, but my loudest piece is the gurgling of my HOB Overflow.
Any methods out there to shut the thing up?
