I do think that dr Tim's really helps. I used it and believe that it does work. It's really just the sand I question. If you are interested there is a video on u tube (sorry I don't have the link) but its the maker of dr Tim's going over what it is and how it works. Check it out
I would go with dry I really don't believe in that live sand to much. It's gonna cloud up no matter what u put in live or dry just rinse it off a bunch with rodi water before you put it in. If you put your existing rock in there you will seed your new sand. Why pay more for marginal benefits...

Today I came home from being away for a couple days and my sons 20 gal looked a little off. I decided to test water all seemed well till I tested alk it didn't even register. I test with salifert and it changes to pink or orange on the final step. Today it turned to pink with the 1st regent...
So here I am in Maryland, my wife driving from ice rink to ice rink on my I pad checking out what's going on. Wishing I could have made the meeting to look at and discuss tanks. I must be crazy or something and if I'm not I'm absolutely an addict. I think reef for to many hours a day plotting...
Yea I have to have sand in my tanks, I'm sure bare bottom is better but it just doesn't seem right to be imulating a piece of the ocean and not have sand.. If you had some time you could rinse it all then put it in a container with a pump and check it in a couple weeks for phosphate or nitrate...
I would get new or go bare if u like that look, that old stuff might leech out phosphate a month after being in your tank and think of how bad that could be
I don't know right or wrong of it I just pulled mine out yesterday. I hated cleaning every couple days, socks draining on the counter pods that I want in my system getting wiped out its all to much.. I also do water changes in my sump so there is no build up and even the little that does in...
