    Phosphates and Nitrates

What nitrate kit are you using and how old? I'd have an LFS or a reefer friend test your nitrates with their kit. I can't see how you could have phosphates that high with zero nitrates. They are kissing-cousins and go hand in hand with nitrates typically considerably higher than phosphates.

    Any sailors out here?

Any sailors out there looking for a project boat. A 25 foot fixed keel that is in need of everything. It's been sitting in the backyard filled with water, so the inside is shot. Also all new sails and rigging needed.

Looks like BRS has been acquired

I wouldn't consider it acquired....more a partnership. BRS will continue to be BRS with more bucks behind them.

    RO waist water

I collect my waste water in a 55 gallon drum that has a MAG 18 in it and use the water for the washing machine (top loader = water hog). You're fine using it in the FW tank....you have approximately 25-30% increase in TDS, and that shouldn't be an issue in New Jersey....typical raw water TDS...

    MP-40 Gasket needed!

First off I'd recommend not using vinegar to clean an MP. Might wish to check out this post: Beware of Vinegar - The Pump Killer It sure sounds like you'll need a new wetside. Is the wetside you currently have the old style or new style. If it has a blocked portion of the cage, it's old...

Please Google Palytoxin, Palytoxin Poisoning, Palytoxin death, Palytoxin on skin, Palytoxin symptoms, etc. Google one or all of these and you’ll find 10’s of thousands of hits. As Curt has pointed out, I’m old...oh wait, he said I’ve been around for a while….but I’m also old. Palytoxin is...

    Sad

I'm sorry, but this is not true. After putting a second pair of clowns in my tank, and World War III immediately breaking out, I attempted to net and remove the two new clowns. In the process my hands were hitting into Zoa colonies. A couple hours later I broke out in welts where my hands...

    Sale on alk/ calcium /mag

Oh Mark, you've hurt my feelings. I'm not sure if I can forgive you!!!...JK And yes, everything I do is from Dr. Randy Holmes Farley, because I don't know what I'm doing. As far as recipe, and yes, it's a recipe, so that makes it more similar to baking than chemistry, I use 2 cups of calcium...

I’ve got you all beat! Go the DIY route, and you’ll be rolling in all the dough you save. I had been telling people that I spent 5 - 10 bucks a year to dose my tank, using mendacious mathematics (some people call this branch of mathematics statistics). However, with now having 15 years...

Cleaning Used Sump, Tank, and Live Rock

Yep, citric acid works faster than vinegar (acetic acid), and is safer than hydrochloric acid (HCl / Muriatic acid), which could burn your skin and put holes in your clothes, and doesn’t penetrate plastics like acetic acid does. My only recommendation with Citric acid, if you want to make a...

DIY Float Switch on the Cheap

After re-reading your question I realized you might be talking about either the 12V power supply OR the relay switch, and NOT A RESISTOR....so need to talk amps. POWER SUPPLY: I can't see what amp rating I purchased for the 12v power supply, but it's only running the relay and float...

DIY Float Switch on the Cheap

There is no added resistor in my DIY. You might be referring to this picture of the OLD voltage supply: that contains a Triac and resistors. I don't want to get into the details of this, because, as you can see, the resistors are toasty brown....so not recommended. The resistors lower...

DIY Float Switch on the Cheap

Let me try this answer and see if it's understandable. It's a 12 volt relay that turns on and off 120 volts. Think of it as a switch and the 12 volt side turns that 120 volt switch on and off. Hope that helps. And just to clarify from the other post, the 12 volts isn't there to run a...

Need help with sump return pump float switch

Your off-the-shelf float switch is a reed switch (very very thin pieces of metal). You don't want to run 120 volts through these switches, not to mention having 120 volts submerged in your tank. That said, you can buy 120 volt switches, but you'll have to mortgage your house or sell your...

I'm using Kasa. I started with Kasa smart switches and decided to stay with Kasa smart plugs to use the same app. I'm happy with both switches and plugs. Just be aware you can max out your WiFi. I have wifi printers, computers, television fire stick, a couple smart switches, and when I got...
