Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
I think if you have enough to school both it would be ok, but if you don't have the room for 2 schools, I'd stick with one type. They do better in packs of their own and ONE starburst isn't going to be happy in a family of lyretails. They're more outgoing in bigger numbers.
By the time you bought a kit and a pump you could just buy the Hydor. Definitely a case of penny wise and pound foolish, IMHO. We have parts and parts and parts, and (up until recently) had one working pump out of 4. Recently the shaft that the prop is on came loose on that 4th (and only working...
Personally I didn't like the SCWD. I think it restricts flow too much and I don't think it is supposed to work well over 900gph. We took ours off of our 65.
Lyretails are among the hardy as far as anthias go. You're best off if you can get 6-8 of them, or just 2. 3 is a recipe for disaster. One male and a harem of females. Pretty fish.
T5s would serve your needs quite well. I don't think you need MH for what you want to keep. I'd go T5 over 4x65. I have 4x65 over my 65 and think that I'd get more par per watt out of T5 lighting.
If you've got the same exact parts he had when he was successfully running it... you've not got it configured the way he had it. I can't really get a whole lot from your photographs. Any way you could draw out the diagram (even by hand)?
That's right, Mike. I couldn't tell if you were including head loss in that or adding it to it. Your idea sounds good. Just give yourself a little extra buffer in there for the JIC and you'll be in good shape.
Your 2600gph doesn't take any of the head loss into consideration. I think you're probably looking at 4000+ by the time you factor in head loss. Pressure rated is going to be CRITICAL to the application. Anything else will cave under the ... "pressure"!
ARM wants a PH at close to 7 according to the package (that's what we're running). It all depends on the brand of media you're using. ARM turns to mush under 6.8 or so. We have ours filled 3/4 also.
Welcome to NJRC!
I have the Reeflux 10Ks and am anxious to switch to something with more blue. Reeflux 12 or 14ks is what we're looking at for the next bulb replacement. I had Coralvue 14ks before and really liked the color.
Our skimmer does still have a dedicated pump (plus recirc pump), but I don't see any reason why (given a strong enough pump), you couldn't do it all with one. I love the idea of the flow control valve. I can see some of those in our future, lol.
The only problem that I see is that given the...
Great looking rock work. Love the way the 3 pillars look.
Word to the wise though... You're going to want 2" clear all around the glass (rock no closer than 2") so that you can get your cleaning magnet/reefgadget around the glass to keep it clean.
