Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Yeah when I saw it this morning it said target was 5.6 which is what I responded too. Sounds like you saw the warning (rtn), tested and now you are going to fix it. Happens to all of us. Just keep testing.
If you really want to get crazy, you can setup a camera on the tank or have your buddy facetime you (if you are in the US). Mikem also nailed it, have a backup reefer that can be called if your buddy thinks something is wrong.
As someone who was very involved with the Camden experiment I would say don't do it. However, it sounds like something you are passionate about so I will at least try and give some guidance. (I also voted no in the poll).
Location: this is really what kills the project as a good location is...
Wrasses and especially coris can disappear for a while, let them be and don't disturb them which could stress them further. Also make sure you have a tight lid, as they can jump. Evap can change seasonally as supra said, check your refract if you are getting the same readings all the time.
You need to test your alk and calc and then you adjust your dosing to keep those numbers consistent. It takes a lot of tests and dosing in the beginning to get it dialed in, but that is what leads to success.
So alk and calcium are the foundation for coral growth bu they have no effect on algae growth. Nitrates and phosphates are what cause algae to grow. So get all of them in check and your sps will grow.
I am a huge fan of always using a new sand bed when you move a tank, we have done it several times and have never had a problem doing it. When you disrupt and old sand bed you can be realeasing a lot of nasty stuff, and if you don't properly rinse it (like Mark states above) you can do more...
Tank looks amazing. If you want a cheap "hack" get some of the orange gel filters to take your pictures through. Might make a big difference and it is a really cheap option.
Sump flow really depends on what you have going on in the sump. Is there anything else beside a skimmer in there, any baffles, any other reactors or chaeto or whanot?
