i'm excited about your getting the rotifiers...let us know how that works out.
fyi - i don't have an anemone in my tank. Though I imagine an anemone would help since it would prevent any other fish in the tank from wandering too close.
per joyce:
set up a 10 gallon tank but only use 3 gallons of water in it. This will help to ensure the larvae eat.
Make sure the tank seams are good. Apparently the larvae are so small they can get stuck in a seam and die.
Cover the tank and do not let any light in except from the top. Cover...
The eggs will hatch at first dusk on the 7th or 8th night if your lighting is mimicking a typical day/night schedule.
If you are unable to move the clowns/eggs from the display - then you could try and siphon them as they hatch (if you are willing to wait and watch). Do a slow slow siphon...
i have the same thing - they appear to be a parasite on snails. My maxima clam is fine - I was a freak watching it every night the first 2 weeks i put the clam in. It's been growing now for the past 7 months.
I went snail less in my tank for 4 weeks (when I first intro'd the LR) and noticed two...
we're volunteers...if you were a part of the club - you could voice your suggestion in a meeting and maybe we'll implement it.
First event coming up to mention would be in Atlantic city on sept 25th...
quick update -
The female perc that has laid eggs twice - propelled itself out of the tank (no cover) on Friday. We heard her flapping on the floor. I put her back in and thought she was going to die. An hour later she was back by her "nest" and being guarded by the male.
Today she laid eggs...
I usually always agree with you but on this one I'm going to hedge and say that these crabs are so invasive they are more than able to adapt to the higher temps.
Don't forget they are found all over the atlantic from NY/NJ all the way down to Florida, Louisiana and Texas. With the biggest...
i like the siphon suggestion by scotty. At least I hope it works for me...lol. That stated everything i've read about blenny's is that they are characters/fun to have. The only potential downside is if you introduce tridacnid clams - the blenny may bug the clam or worse take a bite out of the...
that's the rub of it.
Getting an emerald/fish to eat the bubbles does not mean they have destroyed it. It simply means they grazed it down such that the bubbles do not form. All algae require a place to "grow up" so to speak, and if the land is scare due to corals - (and predators) then it will...
those swing handle hydrometers are notorious for being inaccurate. See if you can borrow someone's refractometer - or purchase a new one. But definitely top off with fresh RO water (non-salted).
hey there - just for future reference.
Salinity is measured in ppt - the correct value we try to get to is 35 ppt.
But specific gravity is measured in 1.026.
The way your post it written - the values seem like they are specific gravity.
With regards to the posts here - my only thought is...
come to think of it - if I lived closer - i'd probably pay you to take pics of my tank lol! seriously if we had a tank of the month - someone should pay you to just drive to different homes and take pics of their tanks!
and as i mentioned on the other wtb thread - lowes would have all the pvc parts you need to build your own durso pipes. Just grab the locline from AqOb while you're there.
Ray - having used smaller mags before on my old 55 - i can definitely say they added a degree or two to the overall temp. One for the skimmer, one for the return (back then i probably should have just gotten a single one and plumbed it). Anyways if you have the room to go external - I definitely...
