Doing it outside is a great idea. I could not do that because it was winter and did it in the garage. The "stink" was horrible ,it still stunk up the house and my wife wanted to kill me .

I keep them in low flow,if the flow is to hard it blows the food away before they can eat it. Just a little flow to keep them clean from debries .

Very nice ric, I have a similar one that looks like its going to split . If you can let a little of it hang free over an edge it might make it split faster . Also feed it as much as it wants, they will eat good size food . That little mouth opens big enough to take mysis . Lots of luck with it .
