    Wash those hands folks...

Edited the original for a 24 hour later shot. Seriously sucked. Almost didn't BBQ or drink on the holiday, but managed. I talked like a pirate a lot.

Used one for 2 years for the nanos, loved it. Can easily change DI resin. Great value, never had a problem.

    Wash those hands folks...

Diana, Initially I couldnt see well due to the quick swelling and the tearing up. A taxi was in the works if things went bad with vision. I was working to keep the swelling at bay as best I could but there wasnt an effect on my actual sight at all. I could open the swollen eye and see fine.

    Wash those hands folks...

I often reach into my tanks to replace snail-plowed coral to its position, recover a scraper, place a frag exactly where I want it, etc... Never had a problem in all the years I've been doing this. And I've gotten lazy. Lazy means that I slowly moved away from gloves, then away from the...

    New to this

Make sure when you open that can of tuna you follow those instructions. I'm not going to go into graphic detail, but I tried it once without instruction and we spent weeks cleaning tuna off the woodwork and out of crevasses and orafices. They're there for a reason.

    Auto Feeding Systems?

If food sits in the Jebao it may clog the lines. I have 2 Eheim autofeeders and they work great, though dumping into the sump may just lead to a collection of food in a non filtered area. Why not just use the Eheim to dose directly into the tank near the return?

    Pico 5g

Initially I thought 'Wow, that's small, even for a 5g', but it works really well and balances the tank nicely. All looks great. Watch the Xenia. The stuff will spread by spore and take over the entire tank. Relatively quickly. If you don't want a Xenia specific tank, I'd get it out of there ASAP.

    The SHELLY tank

Saw Mark's tank in person a few months back. Look at the arch running from mid tank to the right. The man made it from shells. And it looks ^&%K*(* great. He's insane. And he saved my arse from a plumbing mistake on my new build (thanks Mark!).

    My Interesting Caribbean Vacation

Many moons ago, when I flew with the Coast Guard and could fit into a flight suit, I would occasionally be stationed in Guantanamo Bay. Before it became a prison camp it was loaded with interesting things, like iguanas, bazillions of tiny lizards, iguanas, vultures, scorpions, banana rats, and...

Bit of a disaster (& HC update)

Fishcicles, coralcicles, snailcicles, and such. But, one can argue that in a well insulated house, over a few hours, with the water buffer, and a tank kept at 79-80F, the temperature drop may be negligible over a few hours, especially in larger tanks. Even if a drop of 4-5 degrees occurs over a...

The 120 I said would never happen

First, let me go just back a few posts to post #31 - The Successful but Meh Hanger I take every 'Meh' back. Once the cords are zipped in it looks good. As a bonus, if i need to move the light, I can just slide it to the side (the plant holders rotate in the conduit). And, I reckon in the future...

Bit of a disaster (& HC update)

HOLY COW UPDATE! Last night filefish was on its side unmoving, large clown about the same, all zoas closed, all SPS withdrawn and fading color. Left for work this morning and came home tonight to count my losses. Everything is OK, I mean everything (except for those SPS that were acclimating...

Bit of a disaster (& HC update)

As we pull into our driveway tonight, at 7:45, our neighbor informs us there's no power. I ask him how long the powers been out, he says 'since about 9:30 this morning. At just after 8pm power returns. Taking stock of damage in main tank after 11 1/2 hours without power... Filefish didn't make...
