Mark at et. al.,
Did this today and can't be bothered to take pics.
So, I'll describe.
Got get a stick, like a marshmallow roasting stick or a kebeb stick, the wood kind, oft pointy at one end.
Hack the pointy end of the stick, lightly, with a knife, in all different directions.
Try to make the...
Heya J!
Not sure what I'm looking at with the pic, but the brown/orange stuff in the low left of the photo certainly looks like diatomes.
Depending on the age of the tank they;re a normal and expected occurrence.
If the tube is longish and about the diameter of a pencil lead, there are multiple short arms (1/4 to 3/4 inch) that are thin and fanlike, its probably a tube worm. They seem to grow spontaneously and I've got them in my fuge, filter, overflow, etc... . They're harmless filter feeders. I'd think...
Everything is open this morning with about 50-60% reduction hair algae and no diatomes on the floor.
If possible, the zoas seem to have perked up a bit. All inverts (including more delicates like anemone crabs) are out and scavenging.
Seems there's no concerns.
Dave, if you look on the right...
Last night i decided to spot treat some hair algae with 3% hydrogen peroxide (thanks Sponge).
I poured approx 7oz into a bowl (its what was poured out, and I was too lazy to try to get it back in the container).
Intent was to mix some tank water with it and use a baster to hit the algae, dumping...

Ha! Yep, the incinerators are the frag from you. I know the pink zips and the Eagles, did not know the gobstoppers. Cheers :)
Also have an infestation of Sunny D's and Utter Chaos that seem to want to take the tank over. May actually have to learn to frag at some point.
Sponge,
That was a bit of fun sarcasm aimed at another member who sells zoas.
Zoas (zoanthids) are a 'soft' coral that don't require adding additional chemicals to your tank and like the water a bit 'dirty'.
Zoas can go from quite cheap ($1-2 per head) to quite expensive ($100 per head)...
OK, hope this helps. Typing some general stuff here to cover bases, no insults intended. I'm assuming you haven't run a closed nano system previously. I run a load of nanos, though at the moment I only have 4 (40g, 40g, 10g, 7g).
The media rack (or basket) goes in the first chamber that the...
Welcome aboard!
First, love the stand, if you put a bar and a TV in there you're set.
Also love the set up, I'm surprised you're a first timer with the hobby as you're setting up a fantastic system.

The pet release thing I understand.
Many years ago I raised ferrets and it required a special exotic animal license at the time for the same reason, they didn't want ferrets running amok mating with or killing local wildlife.
It almost seemed a mute point. My ferrets were not tagged or tracked...
Got to disagree with the Petco statement, at least here in Brick.
Think its a store by store assessment.
We've got a guy at the Petco here, Andrew, who is top notch. He runs quite a few tanks of his own (including seahorses), keeps their saltwater department stocked, super clean, and very well...
