Here is a website that was given to me when I asked the same question about cleaning and re-using old sand. http://www.melevsreef.com/rinsing_sand.html
Yes there is. They make units that can make 300 GPD (Gallons Per Day of RO/DI). The unit that some of us use around here is the Typhoon III from Air Water Ice. You can get 75, 100, 200, 300 GPD units. The club does group buys with them.
I use Instant Oceans Salt. I mix it the same way but in a Brute 15 gallon trash can with pump and heater.
Here some info on salt. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1287118&perpage=25&pagenumber=1
I would leave the corals and fish in the tank for now and cure the rocks in a separate container. Its going to take a little bit of time and lots of water changes to cure the rocks. This can be done much easier in containers than in the tank. You don't want to drop one of the rocks and crack...
Vingar will do as stated above. After cleaning the tank with it, just rinse it thoroughly and your good. No need for drying. After the tank is done than you have your rocks. How will you clean them?
Well said Merv. Thanks for sharing your journey with us on Vodka dosing. You are correct, "SLOW IS BEST". I'm on my third day with dosing Vodka and I'm pretty nervous about it. The growth on your corals are incredable. I must say, that I was a little surprised to read that you only keep the MH...
I would try the fish trap even if it means catching them one at a time. I would also remove the rubble rock. You could break them up into smaller pieces and use them as frag plugs.
If you take a look at the picture, it shows that the hole is drilled near the top edge. No, it will not all drain. Though you must have enough space in your sump to accommodate the little water that will go down when the return pump is turned off.
Can't wait to see it up and running. Ron, let me know when is ready. I have a few frags to give you and your daughter. Your daughter is very lucky to have a DAD like you.
No skimmer or light. All you are trying to do is remove all the dead stuff in the rocks. I have three large rocks thats been sitting in my garage for over a year and I will be re-cycling them with water from my water changes.
If it were me, I would make the overflow external. You will get more real estate that way since you are downgrading from 75. I would put it in the middle. If you want something really simple. Drill a 1 1/2 inch hole on the back glass, and put a durso standpipe on it. You can turn the 90 degree...
Hey Adam CONGRATS on the tank. I think option one is best. I don't see how the 2x4's on the back, can hold the weight of the tank. They are not underneath the tank. If you want option two, than put another 2x4 right underneath the back corners of the tank.
rgarofalo, you are absolutely correct...
Feng is the MAN..... Any pics of the Anthia's. I'm dieing to get a few. I'm just trying to get control of my red algae before I put anymore fish in my tank.
