Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
You can get them seperate, we have done it several times. Candy striped pistols are our favorite as they stay relatively small and will absolutely pair up with the fish. The tiger is our second favorite but they do get bigger and are insane diggers. Any other kind I am very leary of as we have...
They are probably new, the only knock I have read on these heaters is that they are not bigger so they may have gone ahead and made the two bigger models and that is why they are backordered (my own speculation).
The other thing you can do it get 2 of the 100w to have some redundancy.
I agree that a pistol shrimp with a goby is an awesome addition to any tank. Of those fish in the link we have experience with the dracula, yasha, wheelers and the yellow watchman (That list is from favorite to least favorite).
Blue spot jawfish can be very tough, take a look at the smaller...
I would go with the ATI+ Purple. Dnov99 ran those in conjunction with his Sol Blues and they really added to the color of the fish and corals. With the magenta stunner strips, you might want to go with an actinic bulb if you fell you have enough "red" coming through. The blue+ is a great 14k...
Most (if not all) large angels will pick at corals. I have seen plenty in reef tanks but usually with large colonies of SPS that it does not matter if they pick a bit. LPS they could destroy it will depend on the fish. You just have to weigh the cost of the fish vs how much the corals cost...
We do water changes because we have closed systems. We add nutrients daily through feeding and our fish/inverts pooping. You can remove those nutrients through skimming, chemical filtration, and water changes. Chemical and skimming will get most of it but not all of it, water changes will get...
It all depends on your system and what you have. With my nanos that were coral heavy I had to be diligent 10% weekly as you have a small system volume and sensitive corals. In my bigger system I am more lax, maybe 20% every 2-3 weeks. I still have the same sensitve corals but my tank is...
I would nix the six line. They are known terrors and in a 40 it might just kill all your fish. Maybe a nice flasher wrasse.
I will pm you on equipment if it becomes available.
If you are going to run everything HOB, I would recommend the CPR HOB refugiums and the Aqua C Remora. Let me dig around I think I still have both of mine off of my old systems.
Lighting: You might be able to get away with a 4 bulb but if you can find a 6 bulb you will be set for whatever...
Some breeders have had good luck with using a small flower pot. The clowns like the security of it and they will spawn in there. It is tough once they choose their spot, but as jgraz mentioned a tile would work well too.
Do you have a sump or another area you could take the water from that...
