George, you identified a winner with that grabber. I actually have a second one still in the bag. I'll bring it along for the first person who slaps down two bucks. Also, if you have a deep tank or short arms (or you're and old fart :o ), these are great because they appear to be all...

Survey on Aquacultured Corals over on R2R

    Water Test Results

Juan, that doesn't sound right. I don't know your total volume, but 2.4 tsp might be alright for a very small nano tank. With the BRS calculator, assuming you cooked the baking soda, you want to pick "2 Part Alkalinity (soda ash)." The other consideration is that you don't want to raise...

James, I suffer from Algae Clip Obsession Disorder (ACOD). I’m in a 12 step program right now….ACA (Algae Clip Anonymous)….and I’m on step 4, building your own personal algae clip holder. This is therapy. Please don’t pick on those of use who have a disability. :o

Algae Clip Holder Out of site......The clutter of the algae clips laying around was bothering me....I have eight clips. I quickly found a solution with scrap acrylic and wood. Screwed the acrylic strips to the wood with stainless steel screws: And here it is mounted in the...

    Dan's 150 Rebuild

Same here....BRS pellets. I purchased the gallon size, which normally sells for 160, for 128 in a group buy. You will want to start the reactor with 1/4 - 1/2 a cup and then increase to maybe somewhere in the area of 1 1/2 to 2 cups. EDIT TO ADD: Jim and I were typing at the same...

DIY How to make a Sea Sweep

Ed, this is up my alley. The problem is that the alley is filled with too many projects right now. But I am confident that you can do this. This is not that complicated. It just looks that way because this guy included every little step in the process.....very detailed and well made...

    Any Structural engineers on here

This is the general simplistic rule of load......40 lbs live, 10 lbs dead...on a 16" OC floor. And by the way, the tank would be considered dead weight. This general rule doesn't take into account the type of wood the joists are made of, the type and amount of sheathing, the span, etc. I...

    Any Structural engineers on here

Dan, I will tell you that it is not a simple calculation of knowing that you have 2x8 joists 16 inches on center. You either have to wing it (like most of us have done), add additional bracing (typically overkill), or get a structural engineer in there to do the necessary calculations.

Edwin, that doesn't look good. I don't know anything about fish diseases, but that looks parasitic. Here are two references I have on fish diseases....hope this helps. Pictorial Fish Disease Guide Parasitic Diseases in Marine Aquarium Fish
