Thanks Chris,
Other than being a controlling factor in the ph, is carbon used in anyway by the coral, and therefore if we run to the high side of ph, does that impact coral growth.
I know some folks think pushing alk and ca up may help calcification, I was just wondering if the diminished...
So, do we pick the method soley based on target ph and alk, or is there a need to maintain a certain level of carbon as well?
Or another way of saying it, is the limiting factor of the upper ph range a lack of sufficient carbon?
Ah, free plankton!
I missed my clown hatch, I still need to read up on the cycles and get ready for the next one.
Next time strap yourself down Phyl and watch quietly! ;)
Great idea mladenkovic! I'll have to give this a try. It's frustrating trying to blow floating foad back to the little guys that didn't grap it fast enough!
Another feeding trick, when defrosting frozen food, soak in saltwater. If you soak it in fresh it floats, and usually floats right away...
First I feed the fish to give the corals the idea that food is coming. I soak everything in garlic and selcon, so as that gets in the water I can see feeders start to extend.
Then I kill the pumps. Turkey baster is used to give a small squirt to the candy canes, blastos and euphylias. By then...
Sharks, please be gentle with the old men around here that go back to TQM days and can only manage four sigmas. If Demmings or Juran show up in this thread, I'll really be impressed! ;D
My bubble, cyanaria, scoly and plate thank you for reminding me about my own advice!
They are happily dining, and I'm happily drinking a toast to them!
These guys like smaller stuff like mysis and small chunks of krill. My hammers eat more than the frogspawn. They can do well without target feeding, but they thrive when you do feed them.
I keep water mixed in advance. I do not use water mixed the same day.
I drip acclimate in small containers, individually. I take about 40 minutes to an hour unless there is a substantial difference in sg.
I dip all corals in iodine and flatworm exit. Zoas I try to give a freshawater dip after...
Hey Joe,
The bulb is back in Woodbridge. Not to worry about my efforts, it's a labor of love!
We can work out getting it to you during the week.
Great chatting with you , twice, today!
you can always run into NJRC members at Aquatic Obsessions!
Absolutely! With my method of water changes and kalk drip only, the salt mix parameters become the baseline and the kalk drip replenishes daily alk/ca consumption. I have tinkered with my salt mix, but I do it in the 55 gallon batch I mix, not in the tank. I have settled on Tropic Marin and for...
There's another reason why I approach temp the way I do! Easier is better for me. ;)
And another reason why the reef is more tolerant of high temps than a small tank is, much better nutrient control on the reef.
Shrooms, zoas and frogspawn will be more tolerant of the heavier bioload.
A big skimmer helps, but overloading is never good. If you add a medium size fish, just add one more.
The shrimp idea is a good one and it gives you something completely different to watch.
