    Has anyone tried this yet???

I always thought that was the reason for having a garage in the first place, to fill with useless crap. ??? At least that is what I did with mine. ;D Mike, if you replace the MJ1200's with a Korallia, I'll be needing 2 MJ1200's very soon.

    Chemistry question - Alkalinity

So what's the problem with 8.1? I realize it's at the lower end of the preferred range, but it works. Stability is more important than an ideal range. I got caught in the same loop of adjustments to try to raise my ph from a usual 8.05. It was more work than it was worth, and the corals are as...

    Chemistry question - Alkalinity

Glad you appreciated the humor, and Carlo summarized the point I was making very nicely; most of the elements in NSW are trace elements. I have only needed to measure CA,MG, Alk and occasionally Iodine, as I do not keep too many demanding species of coral. If my corals are thriving, I stick to...

My Xenia, paly and GSP ain't looking right.

Sorry, Lost track of the vial size problem a few days ago. The answer is, it depends. If the 5ml vial is about the same width and depth, or diameter if round, as the standard one for the kit, then it would work. Otherwise the color could be off. A new alk kit with all the components should be...

My Xenia, paly and GSP ain't looking right.

The water to be tested goes in the vial first. This is how you know you have the proper sample size. Then you add the testing reagents per the instructions.

What would you want to see in a reef book?

Nope, Mynd referred to a site as an example of the type of information to put in a book and I suggested picking the bain of WaterKeeper, a prominent and reliable poster of beginner advice, as a source of ideas for the book. I agree that turning newbies loose on a forum is not a good first or...

Mixing Saltwater - Is it a Batch or Continuous Process??

So Carlo, you're a continuous mixer with an occasional cleanout. Makes sense. I can understand keeping 2 barrels for the amount a tank capacity you have. I also keep a smaller RO/DI reserve. I turn my RO/DI supply over weekly. I don't add minerals back, but I do check the TDS to see if...

    Any Cabinet Makers Here?

And you can try pm'ing Jcurry@wesketch. Jeff is a long time NJRC member and an architect who use to jump in and answer these questions. If he answers, tell him to stop by more often. We miss him!

Mixing Saltwater - Is it a Batch or Continuous Process??

So pros and cons for continuously replenishing your saltwater reserve: PROS - You generally have the maximum amount of fresh saltwater available for random water change opportunities. CONS - Is that stuff growing in there? What is the SG/ALK/CA/PH today? Single batch pros and cons: PROS -...

Mixing Saltwater - Is it a Batch or Continuous Process??

Many of us mix and maintain large barrels of saltwater. I was wondering if you mixed and used in single batches, or do you just keep topping of and adding salt? I can see some pros and cons to both methods. Since I was asking this question, I decided a poll might be interesting to capture...

    Chemistry question - Alkalinity

I would measure CA and Alk today and tomorrow to get an idea of your daily consumption before I would resume part A When things are starting to level off, I agree with testing the MG. 1275-1300 is a good level. Again, test for a few days to determine your average daily dose. Make sure you...

    Chemistry question - Alkalinity

That's the 2 main reasons, the most likely being you were dosing more b-ionic B than needed. The other cause could be a high alk batch of salt. I think it's a good idea to test the next batch.

What would you want to see in a reef book?

Another random thought, pop over to Reef Central and pm WaterKeeper. A lot of his newbie threads are very informative and entertaining. I bet he has some ideas for ya.

What would you want to see in a reef book?

So if you are focusing on newbies and want to make it fun, have lots of pictures of things that they can raise and that look great. How about some basic recipes to build a beginner size tank with easy to keep attractive corals? Have a softie, a zoo and an easy lps tank pictured with a list of...

    NOW THAT WAS SOME STORM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bummer Stan! Glad that everything is OK. Like the others I just had to deal with a frightened dog and the noise kept me from getting back to sleep for awhile. A good day to skip painting I think!

    Chemistry question - Alkalinity

So the Alk will come down as Phyl said, but lets try to figure how it got there. Are you adding anything to the tank other than doing water changes? What brand salt are you using? Are you topping off for evaporation with RO/DI water and have you checked your TDS readings on the RO/DI?

    blange3's 180 upgrade

So here is a queston for the woodworkers out there. The stand and canopy seem to be stock AGA Oak components and they've seen better days. I want to do a quick sanding and sealing on them. What should I use??
