    Dan's 90G Reef

Hold everything Dan. I just looked up the doser and I’m guessing THIS is the one you have. If that is the case, here’s what they say, “Flexible dosing speed, 4-Speed dosing speed adjustable (from 0.075 ml – 0.6 ml / sec.). Could adjust speed in manual mode and timer mode also. You could even...

    Dan's 90G Reef

OK….so let’s review the math. You run the calc pump for 28 seconds, 12 times a day, which equals 336 second. At a dose rate of 0.05 to 0.06 mls per second, this calculates out to approximately 17 to 20 mls per day. Now I don’t know your tank, but that seems a little low. As a point of...

    Dan's 90G Reef

Talk to me in volumes...I'm not familiar with your pumps. What does 28 seconds mean in volume? And every other hour....does this mean you dose 12 times a day...or 12 x 28 seconds = 336 seconds = 5 minutes and 36 seconds? And one more bit of info....what size tank?

Stop dosing alk and let it come down on its own. Test daily to monitor. You don't want more than 1 dkh per day.

David, if I’ve been sarcastic, I do apologize. I’ve always thought that some of my posts have been witty and humorous. Oh wait…..that is sarcasm!!! Oh well, that’s just me! However, I didn’t see any sarcasm in this thread….just a dumb old guy who didn’t know how to use a computer. Oh...

    Bubble algae issues

So folks are pointing fingers at your increased water changes. Hmmmmmmmmm! Increased water changes will drop nutrient levels, which could lead to bubble algae starting to croak. That’s possible…but the corals now turning for the worse??? Out of curiosity, what salt are you using?

    Dan's 90G Reef

Holy crap! I don’t know if I’m coming or going. This reminds me of the tongue twister in The Court Jester movie, where Danny Kaye’s line is “The pellet with the poison's in the vessel with the pestle; the chalice from the palace has the brew that is true!” But then the chalice from the...

Precipitation. Do I win a prize for getting the answer? Actually I agree with Edwin (which must mean I agree with myself)…what’s important is to not subject your tank to big swings. Even if your numbers are crap, keep them at “crap” while you slowly bring them in line. Don’t just shut...

    Bubble algae issues

John, first thought...alk, calc and mag numbers. And are you dosing? Second thought....your kid wouldn't have put "something" into the tank? Third.....temperature....has the tank seen temperature swings?

    MP40 Issue

Edwin, sounds good….that changes the total price for this Wet Frame from $18 to $14 each…..sounds a little better for this 50-cent piece of plastic.. Before I order, does anyone else need any Ecotech parts? We’ll split the shipping based on percentage of $$ ordered. Let me know ASAP.

    MP40 Issue

Surprisingly the epoxy didn’t hold. Maybe because it was just too small a piece. I’ve now applied a slug of super glue (cyanoacrylate), but I’m not overly optimistic. David, thanks for the info about parts….I had already looked it up…$10 for the Wet Frame plus $7.95 shipping.

    Planning new build, input appreciated

Pete, you know your chemistry. Yes, there is a reaction of the vinegar (acetic acid) with the calcium carbonate, which "consumes" the acid. This is the reason why you need to continually wet the towel (along with evaporation). The reaction of vinegar with calcium carbonate produces a...

    Planning new build, input appreciated

You actually need to re-wet the towel with vinegar ever hour or so. The towel must remain wet with vinegar. It does work....I've recently done it with two Brute trash cans used for mixing salt.

If you still have the O-Ring and it's in one piece, put a little plumber's grease on it. I actually use Leslie's Pool Lube...it's the same stuff at a fraction of the cost. You need to buy that in a Leslie's Pool Store. In your area, there is one in Hamilton (950 Highway 33, Hamilton, NJ)...

"If you want to upgrade your tank I want you to upgrade my front porch!"

News Flash! Four men fell through a dilapidated front porch while delivering a new 135 gallon fish tank. No serious injuries, but the tank was a total loss. :o Congratulations Matt. Will be following along with this tale.
