    Naso Tang has gone nuts

The problem with naso tangs is that you cannot sex them until they are full grown (the male gets the long streamers). Your remaining fish might now be a bully, it may have just been defending its territory if they were both of the same sex. They are gorgeous fish, good luck with the remaining one.

    2-part vs calcium reactor

They are harder to dial in and things can change in your tank which can throw your params way off. First decision is what solutions and how many are you going to dose (calc, alk, mag) how often you are going to dose, when are you going to dose. What company are you going to use to supply the...

    Amazing, Astounding, Awesome April Event!!!

Couple of quick raffle updates: Spoke with Copps this afternoon and he is bringing some amazing frags for the raffle. The only one I know of so far is the Tyree Red Dragon Acro but he will be getting me the names of the others. We will have a dimmable MH ballast from our newest sponsor and...

    2-part vs calcium reactor

I have been running dosing pumps on and off for over a year and I can't wait to get a calcium reactor. At your tank size I think it would make sense to get the calcium reactor and go from there.

Can you visually see tank based chemical warfare? Hairy Mushroom Question

Nikki was pulling a mushroom off of a rock and got stung. Soft corals have no skeleton so chemicals are their only defense and they can and will use them.

Rethinking the words aggressive and not reef friendly

I got a chuckle out of it, if you watch your tank close enough you will always be able to find a good laugh.

    My 280g build....

Alright, the April event is in manasquan and you are in manasquan, I think we are just all going to have to come over for an impromptu meeting after the meeting to see this thing. In all seriousness that whole setup look amazing.

Rethinking the words aggressive and not reef friendly

The thing you have to realize is the fish you have now is a juvenile. In a couple of years it might turn into a nasty, aggressive, tail nipping machine. I hope all goes well for you and that does not happen. In this hobby we are dealing with live animals which all have their own personalities...

    12 gallon JBJ

Thank you for the compliments. We got our amikami from Greg at Reef to Reptiles and he has them priced way way lower than DD. The flaming prawn came from Trop but I know they have not had them in a while.

    Chiller???

The standard thinking in the hobby is that the "correct" temp for a tank is 78-80 degrees. Some people run 80-82 and have great success and some people run 70-72 with great success. From what I have seen and heard if you go around 85 degrees or higher that is when you will start losing things...

    12 gallon JBJ

Olivier was up yesterday and we spent more time looking at the 12g then the other two tanks. The 12g really is an awesome tank, I set this tank up in November 2008 and it has been a solid tank since. The live rock was all live rock (we got it before real rock) and the life on it is amazing...

    12 gallon JBJ

Updated pics time: Here are two more shots of the akimani gobies. This guy was in a real tough spot to get a picture but I had to try. You can see the cool marking on him: We had a flaming prawn goby sighting and were able to grab the camera. Like bigfoot, these pics are always blurry but...

    Friend or foe?

I have tons of zoas and palys and I know any one of them can make me sick in a heartbeat, but it is a risk you take in the hobby. I have just heard to many bad tales about green/brown button polyps that they are not welcome in my tank. Unfortunately they are well suited for the aquarium as...

    Friend or foe?

Green or brown button polyps can be a problem all their own that is why I recommended getting rid of them. They can grow fast and be invasive. Also the toxic levels in them are some of the highest among zoas and palys (I know all of them are toxic). I know people on this board who moved them...
