Lol...+1 Paul. That's an awesome little project you did. And I will agree it may seem a little beyond some people's ability. However, if more people realized how easy something like this is with the right tools it may be a different story. The right tools will make any project easier...
I think the mag 18 would be a bit overkill. I would personally use a smaller pump especially if you're only going to be running the bio-pellet reactor and the BRS reactor. As far as pumps go you can look into the water blaster pumps. I have heard good things about them.
I think you found the culprit. What you can do is wait till the lights are out for a few hours and use a small flashlight to look around the tank for others. They tend to be nocturnal.
I think the info was appreciated. Atleast to me it was. I'm looking at a 57 rimless for my new tank and because if your info I'm going to do a little more research. I was just throwin in my positive experience with my tank I think it helps the OP see if the good out weighs the bad or the other...
Fish will be fine without light for an extended period of time. You can get away with turning the lights on for a half hour before feeding and keep on for another half hour after feeding.
As stated in previous posts this is somewhat to be expected in a new tank. Find the root cause of the...
