    Tank leak craziness

I’ve had tube worms… ………but I have only seen them on the outside of the 1 ½ pipe that enters my filter sock. Now they also might be up inside the 1 ½ pipe that comes down from the display, but I can see in there.

    Trip to palmyra cove

I have to laugh at myself…..when I first saw this picture, I’m thinking that surgeon did a sloppy job stitching up that nasty gash. My idiot mind finally realized it’s some sort of caterpillar on someone’s arm.

    Fish Plates

My wife is the consummate shopper….she should be, because she shops everyday. Here is her recent find…..fish motif paper plate holders. The flimsy paper plate goes in the center section while the outside ring holds your plastic beverage cup. You hold the tail to support your drink and...

What part of NJ do you live?

Sayreville…..bordered by the Raritan Bay to the east, the mighty Raritan River to the north, and the measly but flood-prone South River to the west, and Edwin (ecambero), to the south. :p

    Dan's 90G Reef

Yep! Depends on the salt you are using and the respective amounts of ALK and CALC they put in. For a while I wasn't dosing CALC at all. Now that I'm slowly switching over to IO, It still is less than the amount of ALK I add daily. I would suggest putting dosing pumps on your wish...

    Par 38

For the price you are going to pay for two PAR 38's, why not just get a "regular" fixture. Check this place out....Build My Led.....I understand you can customize the choice of LED's to get the deep blue you want.

    Algae/Bacteria in Salt Mixing Tub

This is a very common “issue” with salts…..some brands more so than others. It is precipitates from calcium carbonate, clay fillers and/or iron oxides. Here is a picture of an old Tuperware I used for making saltwater… .I now use a Brute which looks similar. When the deposits get so...

    75 gallon sump and refugium

Jose, from your PM and conversation we had tonight, I wanted to post a picture of my current sump, with the return section in the middle. I have two drain pipes coming down from my DT. One enters the refugium in the right corner, the other enters a filter sock in the left corner. The filter...

    Dual powerhead

Madreefer reviewed this pump back in 2011. HERE is his review. Although I now have Vortechs, I think if I were setting up a tank today I’d take a look at Jebao WP 25’s and WP 40’s. I’ve seen the 40’s first hand and they put out tons of flow. I am fairly confident they are DC driven...

    75 gallon sump and refugium

Here are two 75 gallon sumps I’ve put together. What is critical is deciding specifically what equipment you wish to put in the sump and sizing the compartments accordingly. Most likely the largest item will be the skimmer. You want to make sure that obviously it fits in the...

My first build thread (29g Biocube)

It is nearly impossible leveling a flat-bottom stand (or a piece of flat plywood under the stand), because the weight is spread out over a large area. You would be better off building a frame out of two by fours (or two by twos), and covering that with ¾ plywood. Now the weight distribution...

    Red Slime Algae I Think

That is not Red Slime Algae (Cyanobacteria). Cyano is more mat-like, and easily lifted or blown off. It’s hard to tell from the pictures (maybe because I have a little netbook), but I’d search dinoflagellates or maybe Calothrix.
