Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Play with moving the dry side around. I like putting my ear on the tank and listening while I move the dry side. You should get it to go pretty quiet.
EDIT TO ADD: I'm not familiar with 10's (I have 40's), but I 've got to believe they also have a glass thickness setting liike the 40's...
WHAT THE ………
Where do you live? I’m coming over and smack you!
You’re setting up a FOWLR. The only light you need is to see the little fishies. What the H…. are you doing lighting that with a Chinese fixture, or even worse, an AI Sol or Kessil.
Golly gee willikers, if you...
I snuck down to the shop after dinner tonight and assembled the carcass. Glue and 3d nails hold this thing together.
Tomorrow I’ll start skinning it with ¼ ply.
I was originally thinking of hinging the doors on the back upright, but now think I’ll hinge this on the top brace on...
Going back to the lower front arched brace, I scribed a line approximately 5/8 inches wide. This was done by eye, and not actually measured.
Using the band saw, I cut this line fat and rasped up to the line. Again, the top front frame piece was left whole.
With all the lower frame...
They suggest these Chinese fixtures get mounted 12 to (I think) 18 inches high. I’m targeting the bottom of the fixture to water surface to be about 12 inches.
I will be painting it black, so it will look like a top hat! :p
I plan on scoring the plywood every half inch…at least half...
Thanks Zippy…..I’m only a novice woodworker, and still learning.
George, I don’t have anything on paper…..so it your words, I’m winging it.
Here’s what the drawing looks like in my mind:
A.) Upper and lower frames attached by L-braces in the four corners…about 16-17 inches...
Here are a couple options
A couple T8 or T12 shop lights from Home Depot. T8’s are 19.97 for a two bulb fixture while T12’s are 12.97 for two bulb.
The other option would be LED’s….but convention home-owners LED’s. Here’s what I had over a 75 gallon freshwater tank a couple of...
This DIY will be a work-in-progress. I don’t know if this build will work, so it could be a documented failure. I am starting this on January 7, 2013, and will update as I am permitted to spend a little free time in the shop without the boss screaming.
I am going to attempt to build a...
Joey, let’s take a little breather here and figure out what’s going on.
What size membrane is it and what is the efficiency rating. I believe the most efficient are 75 gpd membranes at 98% ejection.
Your 22out/87in is roughly 75% ejection.
If you wish to run DI only, I would highly recommend you look into a Kati-Ani system. It is basically the same thing as a DI unit, with the exception that the two exchange resins are already separated, making regeneration easy. Oh, and it's also a whole bunch bigger than a little DI unit...
Wow! Was someone on the naughty list?
Actually if you want to go the gas route, that’s some serious coin for a couple tack welds. You could go cheaper with a flux core MIG…… But the best (cleanest looking) weld for aluminum is TIG. So behave yourself and next year ask Santa for TIG...
I’ve had great success with a bottle trap:
Mine is a liter soda bottle, which I’m sure is too small for your Hippo. But you could try using a ½ gallon milk jug….that would work.
Now here’s the secret……cut a hole in the trap (you can see the hole in my trap), and squirt in some tasty...
My Apollos are exactly 13 inches from the surface of the water to the base of the fixture. You probably need to add another ¼ inch, since the LEDs are behind a piece of glass/plexi. As far as I know, I have no optics on my fixtures.
It just seems that I’m always working on the penultimate design…..just don’t’ seem to be able to get to the final one…..there’s always something to improve.
With my cracked lid on the cooler-style fresh water reservoir (post 184 above), the ½ inch acrylic just sat on top of the lid. So I...
My favorite heaters are Jagers, but they are long. I didn't look up 150's, but I'd guess they are too long. My second choice would be Sera. Don't know the length on these either. Good luck.
EDIT TO ADD: Just looked up the Sera 150’s….they are 11.8 inches long. How about three...
