Oh, one more thing about socks….and I’m not familiar with your sump, so this might be dictated by the sump….but they come with draw strings or with a hard plastic ring. Again, I have 7 inch socks with hard plastic rings, and when it was suggested I wash them in the washing machine, I then had...
Socks: Felt socks shouldn’t exist! Your only choice is mesh. The size depends on what you want to do. I use a sock just to keep my skimmer pump “clean,” so a 200 works well for me. Realize if you go to a fine sock, it will need to be changed/clear more frequently. My 200 needs to be...
Ouch! I can remember the very early 70’s were gas was maybe 26 cents a gallon, and I could fill my Austin Healey for under three dollars. Damn, I’m old!
I am surprised that someone doesn’t realize that these posts of Feng’s PAR were lost when an unnamed person flushed our old website down the old porcelain throne.
Here’s what I’ve got. The only problem is that I don’t know if these were the Generation I lights (ca 120, 1W LEDs) or...
Thanks Mike and Nichole….. and the frag donators…..and the food and drink purveyors. I left the meeting feeling like a newbie…..winning two frags. Great meeting. Thanks again.
I never do well with these photo things….however, the one photo sure looks like the head and antennae of a nudi.
Here are two references….and the most common nudi we find is the Aeolid

You might want to try giving all the rubber parts a thin coating of Plumber’s Grease. You can get a small tube in HD for 10-12 dollars, or a lifetime supply at Leslie’s Pool Supply for (I think), $6.99. I’ve been using this stuff for years, and it preserves the rubber and assists in making a...
I'll be bring a Mexican pizza with chips.....being bold enough thinking that I'll be able to use the oven for about 30 minutes? Otherwise, a cold Mexican Pizza!
This is true. The way you control these is by turning one dial for the blues and another dial for the whites.
The way I see it, these manual dials for setting intensity can be used for:
1. Acclimating the lights to the corals
2. Balancing blue to white to your eye’s pleasure
3...
Skimmer Tweaks
Now that it looks like this cone skimmer is going to work out, I’ve decided to do a couple tweaks.
First thing was to raise it up a bit. It currently sits on a shelf that runs the full width of the sump, and has the skimmer at nine inches deep. The full length also keeps the...
Don, it’s actually doing just the opposite. I’m no longer getting microbubbles, just large bubbles shooting out the bottom of the pipe….with quite a bit of force. The microbubbles are being stopped by the baffles.
George, no worries about cleaning. The water is coming out with more force, disturbing the sandbed below. I actually can’t see bristle worms, algae, food or snails lasting long…..maybe some of the calcified worms, but the flow is pretty fast.
I’m still scratching my head on this one. I’ve...
For the life of me, I can’t see how this could work without a thin walled fritted glass electrode. This electrode must stay wet to maintain the solutions within the probe. That’s a real puzzle, unless this is a one season, short termed probe…..bottom line, it’s not going to last if the probe...
