George, it’s kicking skimmate like crazy…..fingers still crossed.
That mod to a Bubble Magus was pretty neat.
It basically involved putting a bulkhead in the hole of the skimmer body and putting the pump outside the skimmer. What concerns me (with doing this to an SWC) is the torque on...
The SWC 160 calls for 7 – 10 inches of water. I actually measured and marked the side of the skimmer….and it’s in 9 inches of water.
The non-cone SWC 160 came with a Sicce PSK 2500 pump while the cone version comes with an Atman 2500. No other pump fits in the cone 160….just the Atman...
It is a pump problem and that pump is now gone….see THIS, Post #90
The skimmer is now working just fine in nine inches of water with yet another pump, where the impeller has three washers on the impeller side.
Maybe I wasn’t clear. The pump that only worked in five or so inches of water is toast. I tried all three impellers, various combinations of washers, etc, and no go. It also had a hot iron smell when I’d pull it out of the water, after trying to get it to work.
Of the three pumps I got...
TRUE PERCULA
· Typically orange in color with three white bars, with the middle bar having a forward-projecting bulge.
· Has 10 (rarely 9) dorsal spines.
· Usually has jet black margins of varied widths around its white bars, often of which can be rather thick.
FALSE PERCULA (Ocellaris)...
Mike, you’re too kind. I’m in Sayreville and I’m hoping I finally got this thing figured out.
Thank you AO for chiming in as well. Your response got me back to playing with this thing and hopefully finding one of the three Atman pumps that works. When trying your suggestion of lifting the...
George, thanks for the perseverance in attempting to find a solution.
I’m going to cross my fingers and say that I just might have one pump that might be working……for the last three hours anyway….and that’s a record.
I started getting ready to put the MRC back on line when I found the MAG 24...
Make sure you use Randy’s newer Mg recipe. The old one produces a bunch of precipitate.
"Using both Epsom salts and MAG flake, dissolve 7¼ cups MAG flake and ¾ cup Epsom salts in one gallon of water……….dissolve each separately in some freshwater before combining them."
Keep your distance today…..I’m not having a good day. I just opened up the MAG 24 to give it a cleaning, and the impeller is shot! Of the six fins, one is totally missing, and four are being held on by a thread of rubber. Only one impeller blade is fully attached. Don’t know how this...
I guess you can say I’m having water flow problems…..the water isn’t flowing. All three pumps are crapped out. I’m sure what this a-hole did was eventually go through three pumps and said, “that’s it!” And so now I have it.
If I knew I could buy a mod’ed pump that worked, I’d go for it...
It would be better for you to set up a 55 gallon drum with a $20 air pump and a Maxijet to pump the bubbled water through the DI resin.
Fill the drum with RO water, let the water bubble overnight and then pump it through your DI resin….and this resin will now last forever.
I’ve got to...
Well it’s about time.
With a split bed (anion resin in one reactor and cation resin in another), the regeneration is a snap. Just soak the resin in either acid or base for an hour and then rinse with DI water. Done!
The chemistry that is happening is that acidic CO2 (common with NJ well...
I’m saving a ton of electricity now. Just checked on the skimmer, and the bubble column has collapsed yet again. I tried all iterations of impellers and pumps, and I’ve got nothing. So right now I’m not running a skimmer.
First thing tomorrow morning I’m cleaning up the MRC and putting...
Spent the day out and about and came home to this:
Just like yesterday, a few hours after setting up the skimmer, the bubble column was collapsed, but something was still going on. With the reading I’ve done over the past day, I tried blowing into the air feed line, and nothing happened...
It was on RC:
SWC 160 Cone Skimmer
Question about settings on the SWC: I was born and bred on becketted skimmers, and I could never figure out why they put a valve on the air intake….you just always ran that full open. Is that the same case with the SWC? I’ve got the air pick-up wide...
You could us RO only....dependent on the rejection rate, will get your water hopefully to a couple TDS.
Most prefer to purify even further by running the water through a DI unit, which should bring to the water to zero TDS.
EDIT TO ADD….just read the info on the unit you are considering. If...
I think I might have been snookered!
The SWC I just bought is used, and was sold with two extra pumps. One pump flat out doesn’t work. One impeller has a broken ceramic shaft. A second pump “worked” for a couple hours and then the bubble column collapsed….no skimmate produced. Something is...
