Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Unfortunately with an all in one system you are limited in your capacity to cool the tank unless you are willing to drill into the back which I don't think you want to. You can get a chiller which will work but can be expensive. Also, when do you run your lights? By turning on the lights later...
Quick update: The clowns are both doing fine and have already started to host the BTA. It took them 3 days to figure it out so they are getting moved to the head of the class. I actually like the new aquascaping that was done so the tank looks great. We still miss the cherub and will have to...
Most people consider 76 to 78 the "perfect" temperature for a reef tank. You also have to take into account what is in your tank, certain organisms are going to be tolerant of heat spikes while others are not. Corals seem to react much more to higher temps than fish. Most websites out there will...
As long as there is some photo period, it doesn't matter when it is. We turn our MH on at like 5 pm or later depending on many factors. My 12g I turn on in the morning because heat and evaporation are not issues.
The BTA has been in the tank since sunday night so nothing yet. We are hoping they start to host the BTA as it has moved to about the same spot where the clowns hang out. The clown that looked injured was doing a lot better this morning and I will have to see tonight. We also have been dosing...
We have further theorized the the BTA stung the angel which then was sucked into a powerhead. Since I am an optimist, we got the angel out before it crashed the tank and we got to reaquascape the whole tank. Trop had beautiful flameback and eibli angels when we were there on Sunday so I am sure...
Is the skimmer also brand new? They take a while to build up a slime coat to skim properly so the more time the better. Most people if you go through the tale of the tank thread do run one during cycling. It may help reduce in some large algae outbreaks.
Why do we feel the need to constantly upgrade and add things to a system that is pretty much perfect in the first place? Our 30g has been up and running for a few months and everything was going dandy, hell the mandarin we put in there is fattening up. So our Picasso clowns started to host our...
I loved Coral Magazine and they have started a new magazine: http://reeflifemagazine.com/
It was all saltwater fish and corals and had some great reads in it. I hope the new magazine lives up to the old one.
Hola amigos I know it has been awhile since I rapped at you, but things have been getting pretty hairy around here, literally. I was fighting a large outbreak of hair algae in the 12 and then got super busy at work so it was more of a maintenance job than actually trying to solve the problem. At...
How is the little guy doing? I have raised baby birds (wild and captive-bred) successfully using Zupreem (Embrace) and Lafbers (Nutri-Start) formulas made specifically for them, fed with a syringe. Four babies successfuly raised (1 conure, 1 cockatiel, 1 pidgen, 1 bluejay), no fatalities. Good luck!
