Several years ago, I bought a really really cute 1" blue spotted puffer... and put him in a tank with a maroon clown. Well, within 24 hours, that poor maroon clown had NO fins. I do mean no fins, maybe 1/16" showing of pectorals, doral, tail, only tatters of fins left. She went into my hospital...
I have had false percs and maroon clowns beaten up pretty badly during pairing a new fish with an older female fish, in those cases the fins that were damaged grew back in about 1-2 months, depending on the degree of damage. However, since you are not sure if your clown came in with or without...
You could also pasturize it, put it with very little liquid in two layers of disposable tinfoil pans, bake covered at about 250F for about 30 minutes. At the risk of sounding silly, this is what I do with garden soil to start seedlings indoors.
Have you decided what bulbs your going to put in the fixture? We will be picking up our fixture for our new 55 soon (a 6 bulb setup), still thinking about what to put in.
The snail eggs are gone, not sure if the fish ate them or if they just were blown off the glass by the powerheads. The purple/green acan Mike bought from Larry, the other two came from reefs to reptiles and are very new.
I'm with you with the whole I-don't-know-which-change-worked-but-one-of-them-did theory, guess Mike and I should have changed one thing at a time if we really wanted to know what was working.
The new pics of your tank look great!
You said your clams like the purple up- any idea why? We have...
I agree, big fan of the pump. The anem looks great, bubbled almost constantly, he just keeps wandering. What kind of pumps were your running before? I have to check with Mike to see what our mode is set on (so far the extent of my knowledge of the MP10 is how to put it on feeding mode). Our SPS...
I had a clown goby for about 4 months in a F20g OWLER tank... and the poor little guy got eaten by my very nasty emerald crab. Trop has a really pretty one right now if you are anywhere near Ocean.
Tank looks great Rod, I second great clam comment, and that dendro I spy in the front has great color. How are you liking the MP10s? Did you set them up on timers or program?
We added one to our 30G immediately after MACNA, love the varied current, but it seems to be annoying the bubble tip...
Been there, done that. Mike's (mnat) tank grew hair algae like crazy for a few weeks, we did water changes and then scrubbed the live rock piece by piece outside of the tank. This is going to sound strange, but tweasers work for difficult-to-reach spots on the rock.
Have you looked into gobies at all? They are some beautiful gobies out there and you can even pair one with a pistol shrimp. You can also pair up gobies and have a pistol shrimp. They will hop around the bottom and you can get some fairly active ones. You might want to also look at the gold...
We recently purchased a 57 gallon tank and need to buy new lights for it. We are pretty sure we are going to go with T5s as the lighting. We currently have both T5s and MH fixtures on our tanks now and just really like the T5s better. The new tank will be 36 inches long so we were looking at the...
Have you thought about a pair of aquacultured bengai cardinals? We just recently got a small group at MACNA, they swim together, hang out in the middle of the water column where you can see them, and in my mind are quite lovely.
