    could use some help

Part of bulb choice is not only good growth but also personal preference of the color that turns you on. My two choices would be: 1. Four ATI Blue Plus and four ATI Aquablue Specials 2. Three ATI Blue Plus, three ATI Aquablue Specials, 1 6500K (any brand), 1 Fiji Purple. I have a six-bulb...

Need Advice – Adding more Clowns

I’m in need of advice of adding more clowns to my tank. I have a 90 gallon, five foot long tank that currently houses an interracial clown couple. I have a black clown (after Hawkeye’s discussion, I’m willing to bet this is an Ocellaris). paired with a funky orange mis-bar (another Ocellaris?)...

    2010 Officers

Congratulations new Board. Best of luck in continuing to advance the cause. I do see one correction; Having been the outgoing Director at Large – North, that new guy you have in there also needs to be listed as NEW; a little green behind the ears, but I think he’ll fit in. ;D EDIT TO ADD: I...

Bulkhead size for 2.75 diameter hole

    Here's a chart of the difference in the hole size of a schedule 40 versus a schedule 80 bulkhead: Bulkhead size Schedule 40 Schedule 80 --------½-------------1 1/8------------1 3/8 --------¾-------------1 7/16-----------1 5/8 --------1-------------1 3/4------------1 7/8 --------1...

    Don't drink the water

What were you fragging? A lot of the little buggers put out toxins. I’m just wondering if what you are suffering is a toxin effect?

Bulkhead size for 2.75 diameter hole

I would definitely go with the 1 ½” schedule 80 bulkhead. It is for a 2 5/8 inch hole. That’s only 1/8 inch off of what was drilled. It is overkill, and I could never understand why people even considered schedule 80 for aquariums. But in your case I don’t think you have a choice. It also is 3...

Bulkhead size for 2.75 diameter hole

The closest bulkhead is an 1 1/2 schedule 80 which needs a 2 5/8 inch hole. Agree with contacting the manufacturer. Also, where is the hole?

Anyone have an Electrical Conduit Pipe Bender?

I had another thought….if you want that industrial look and can’t get a bender….use black pipe. I think HD will cut and thread it for you. Then you only have to screw it together. If you want, paint it a pretty color. But first use a solvent to get that thin oil off the pipe. If HD won’t cut and...

need help figuring size of bulkheads

Here's the word for Premium Aquatics: All of our regular bulkheads are sch 40, so the ¾ and 1” would be fine. We do have Sch 80, but they are marked 80 and expensive, the 40s are the 5 dollar ish ones.

need help figuring size of bulkheads

¾ inch standard bulkhead needs an 1 ½ hole  (if schedule 80, 1 5/8 hole) 1 inch standard bulkhead needs 1 ¾ (if schedule 80, 1 7/8 hole) By appearance they look like standard bulkheads at Premium Aquatics.  I'll ask PA and double check that they are "standard" bulkheads. EDIT TO ADD...

Off the Shelf LED Light Fixure Build

Lights of America (Sam’s Club), now has come out with a “Cree style” spotlight. Eleven watts with 9 LEDs for about $20. Packaging says 4100K, efficacy / lumens per watt of 47, CRI (Color Rendering Index) of 74. I put this over my freshwater tank. Not sure about the 4700K?? Might cause for algae...

Anyone have an Electrical Conduit Pipe Bender?

OK, so we are back to metal conduit. Is the bender one of the tools Home Depot rents? I actually have one, ten foot length of, I think, ¾ metal conduit that you can have to practice on. It has a slight bend-out to go around a ½ copper water line. Otherwise, it is a straight piece of conduit...

Anyone have an Electrical Conduit Pipe Bender?

Oh! Now I’m starting to get a clearer picture. This stuff is pretty flexible. My guess now is that it isn’t going to work….but I say that having no idea of the span it will need to go and the size/weight of the fixture. Why not just use wood. Cheap, ridged, easy to work with and will hold a lot...

Anyone have an Electrical Conduit Pipe Bender?

Walk into any Home Depot and go to the "electic" area. They have half an isle filled with conduit stuff...boxes, pipe, fittings, etc. It glues up just like pvc water/waste pipe and is even a little cheaper. I think a ten foot lenght of 3/4 conduit is under 2 bucks. Not sure what fixture you...

PVC conduit...the way to go. You get even get a transition piece going from metal to plastic.

Copper Leaching - Myth or Fact??

Copper doesn’t evaporate. It is a metal. It has to be washed out; chelated; ionically changed, for it to come out of the rock. Letting rock sit for a long period of time that has been treated with copper is called rock containing copper. No change will occur over time in regard to copper content.

Copper Leaching - Myth or Fact??

I will emphatically state that copper is not “absorbed” into the glass or silicone of a tank. If you are not absorbed, you can not leach. So the tank may be used again after a good cleaning. The copper just washes away. All the other stuff, I’ve got a concern. I would be very leery about using...
