Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
I wouldn't trust any advise that person gives you. The life cycle of "ich" includes a free swimming theronts which would end up circulating through you're entire system.
We had a member on here who had a very large system that came down with ich. He removed all his fish and quarantined...
Yes, you're overflow with headloss should be able to easily handle 900gph pump. I first started with a MAG 9.5 (950gph) and it was just fine.
As far as back flow after the pumps are off, I actually calculated that because I wanted the tallest....maximum volume in my sump. When folks see my...
Couple comments:
1. I don’t know what this means, “how would you guys do that rubber gasket with pvc compression?”
If you’re talking about a bulkhead, regardless of the direction of installation…...flange inside the tank/flange outside the tank…..the gasket ALWAYS goes on the flange side

The simple answer, NO.
If you're talking about magnesium, you add when needed. I can't tell you the last time I added magnesium. My water changes maintain magnesium. And to think I purchased a 50 pound bag of MAG flakes about 15 years ago! I gave more away than I ever used.
I think you...
It's with everything!!!! Go buy wood for home projects or PVC pipe. Those prices have about tripled. I've stopped building stuff and put projects on hold. And forget about chlorine for your pool. If you don't have a hold-over supply from last year, it can't be found. It's worse than...
I've got one more.....is it the original pump? I think a RO 5500 or 5500s maybe??? Or has it been changed to something else....or possibly the newer DC VarioS-6?
I would look at two things:
1. Unlikely, but worth a look: Is the gate valve actually opening and closing? Do you see the internal valve parts go up and down as you turn the handle? Also take it apart to assure nothing (like a snail) is stuck inside.
2. Most likely: The venturi is...
You don't mention what model you have, but regardless, I am bothered by this comment, "air intakes are mostly blocked," not knowing exactly what you mean. Any skimmer I've ever had, whether a becketted skimmer or cone skimmer, I've always set the air intake wide open, and adjusted the water...
Certainly no problem with water leaving the tank....assuming this water is going down the drain. Now, without knowing specifics on the vinyl tube, such as, is it rated as food grade or food safe, I'd be a bit leery using it. Realize vinyls could contain phthalates and/or BPA. Are these a...
With great caution!!!! If they are males, World War 3, to the death. I don't think your tank is large enough to allow hiding until they have the chance to flip to female.
RC has higher alk and calc....and vitamins, not to mention that it leaves that brown/gray deposit in your mixing bucket. No idea what "vitamins" do for your tank. And if you shop at Sea Level Aquarium, there's only a ten dollar difference between the 200 gallon boxes of IO versus RC....$35...
Know your fish monger!
Naturally occurring phosphates within the various fish/mollusks is not the issue. Dr. Randy wrote up a nice little paper about this HERE.
Where there is an issue is the store applying sodium tripolyphosphate to preserve the raw fish/mollusk and make them appear shiny...
