The Advantages of Keeping natural Tank

I take whatever I find in the bays in the Sound if I think my fish will eat it. But I keep a natural, immune tank so it doesn't matter what I add from where ever. :D

The Advantages of Keeping natural Tank

Mark, here is a link to an article I posted on immunity. A discussion on Immunity Bacteria from the sea will have no trouble living in cold or warm water. The tide pool where I collect goes from about 35 degrees in the winter to close to 90 in the summer as it gets very shallow at low tide...

The Advantages of Keeping natural Tank

The advantages of keeping a natural Reef We all know that there are many ways to run a tank but I would like to start a thread about keeping a natural reef. The ocean is natural and the fish there are all very healthy and never have to worry about getting sick, getting enough food, getting...

    Odd Pipefish Behavior

My male pipefish seems to have almost healed his tail. It was down to stumps as the much larger janss pipefish would chase him whenever he came out to do whatever pipefish do. That pair of bluestripe pipefish learned that they have to stay on the other end of the tank so now I have to feed...

Tank birthday and I'm a Geezer

I had a blue wrasse that grew too large so I wanted to give him back to the store. I made a small fish hook by heating a small needle and bending it into a hook. I caught him in a few seconds and brought him back. I wanted a smaller fish so I just told the guy to give me a flasher wrasse. I...

    Disaster (Kind of)

Thank you Diana A lot of people think of my tank when discussing sewage. I removed the UG plates many years ago mainly to see what was living under there. It was not filled with too much solid material, but it was filled with those tiny red feather dusters which are great filter...

    Disaster (Kind of)

For a couple of months my Reverse Under Gravel Filter has been backing up and I wasn't sure why. I found out. I took a mirror and looked into the manifold that has three acrylic tubes coming out the bottom that feed the Reverse UG filter. That is fed by the algae scrubber screen on the right...

Tank birthday and I'm a Geezer

We are having people on the boat so we went to the market. We call that market "Angel Eyes". We gave it that name because a few years ago we were shopping there and I was off looking at asparagus, rudabaker, or Oldsmobile fenders and I see this guy talking to my wife. I sashay over there and he...

    Odd Pipefish Behavior

Sounds like a plan, I also think I will remove my 26 year old clownfish and quarantine him for 72 days, then freshwater dip, then into copper, Prizapro and quinicrine for 37 days,. Of course the pipefish have to watch this the entire time so they know what to expect.

    Odd Pipefish Behavior

They are not similar at all. Janss are orange and black and about 8" long, bluestripes are blue and orange and about 3" long. Well, you seem to be correct, they are the same colors almost. But very different looking

    Odd Pipefish Behavior

I find this very odd. I have a breeding pair of bluestripe pipefish for 4 or 5 years and there is no problem with them. A month ago I added a pair of Janss Pipefish which are also doing fine. But yesterday I noticed my male pipefish is losing his tail and it is just ribs. He seems healthy...

Tank birthday and I'm a Geezer

I see a "problem" coming soon to my tank. The 3- 1" tubes that feed my reverse UG filter have been growing those worm tubes for decades and there is no simple way to remove the growth. My vertical algae scrubber uses gravity to feed the manifold where the tubes emerge from the bottom and feed...

Tank birthday and I'm a Geezer

It seems I can't keep these small Queen Anthias as the 4 of them are gone. The slightly larger ones with the bright yellow stripe and the one with the muted yellow stripe are doing very well and have been in there for a month to 3 or 4 months so far. I think they will live their normal lifespan...

Tank birthday and I'm a Geezer

This "guy" is turning into a guy. "he" was a female but now is a male. You can't tell too much by this picture because he was "making a funny face". But his upper lip is longer than his bottom lip and that is a sign of Maleness. In fish I guess, not in ma, who by the way was always a male. I...

    Steam Punk Lamp

I just finished another lamp made out of a 1910 telephone call box. The red handle turns it on, the tube lights up red and the brass thing on the back right is a vintage lawn sprinkler. They keep moving the art show back so I will be selling some of these soon. Yesterday I got a call from my...

Tank birthday and I'm a Geezer

These Purple Queen Anthias are extremely cool and colorful but they do require a little different care than say a tang or manta ray. Well, actually Manta Rays do kind of eat in a similar way, kind of but these Anthias require tiny food and although they will eat it when there is no current they...
