Tank birthday and I'm a Geezer

A friend of mine is giving me 4 local pipefish that he collected in the summer and has them in a bucket. He says they eat flake food which is something I have never seen before. I don't have a lot of luck with local pipefish but I will throw them in my tank and hope they get used to eating new...

Tank birthday and I'm a Geezer

I just realized that I can't properly maintain my tank now that I have so many pipefish. Normally once a year I stir up the substrait where I can reach and suck out everything with a diatom filter but I can't do that with the pipefish, especially the blue stripe pipefish as they never live...

Tank birthday and I'm a Geezer

When I get time I need to build a much larger brine shrimp hatchery, the one I have can't take the volume as it was built a long time ago for one mandarin. I still have the hatchery/auto feeder for vacations which continousely hatches how many I want but it will only work well for a week or so...

    Band, whoos, flood aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh

After it is installed I will share it. I already built one under my reef tank and under my boiler and hot water heater that will just shut off the water to that. But now I am going for the entire house as we sometimes go away in the winter and if the heat goes off, the pipes will freeze.

    Band, whoos, flood aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh

Everything is fine and dry now. I am in the process of building a leak detector that will shut off my water main if there is a leak anywhere in the house. I already built one for under my boiler and hot water heater.

    Worm keeper conversion

I would build a DIY space shuttle but I won't have the time this week and my neighbors frown on that sort of thing.

    Band, whoos, flood aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh

No, not the tank, My house. I am so lucky, no, not that I got this flood, but the circumstances. My wife and I were getting ready to go out to our marina for dinner and my wife hears this Bang. Then she hears water running, fast. She says, what was that and why do I hear water running. I...

    Worm keeper conversion

I converted my DIY, evaporating chiller, that was already converted from a bio ball chamber to a worm bacteria grower to increase the bacteria in my worm keeper so I can keep many more blackworms. The acrylic thing at the top with the water flowing over plates is the old chiller that is not...

Tank birthday and I'm a Geezer

Today I went to my favorite LFS to see if they got in a female dragon faced pipefish but no luck yet. I want to spawn mine and he looks depressed. On sunday they are supposed to get in 4 corythoichtys which are very cool but have a weird name. They are pipefish that look similar to dragon face...

Tank birthday and I'm a Geezer

I looked back at a book I started (and will never finish writing) in 1971 and at that time, or a couple of years later I started keeping copperbands. They are a great fish with a lot of personality. But if I could not get live blackworms, I would not keep one. Here is a video of the one I have...
