Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
If Paulie doesn't do it, @mikem is your guy... he's a builder and great guy who has done a whole lot for this club.
And fyi, I'd use exterior sheathing for the walls. About the same cost of sheetrock, but can take the abuse. Excellent for garage walls.
My guess is that it's a moon snail.....either potentially euspira sp or neverita sp. Because you stated that it was huge when out of the shell, I'd guess more for the neverita sp.
Best off just calling it a moon snail....too many genius and species.
Paulie, might I assume you or one of your sea-worthy buddies are collecting these out of Jersey waters?
A little history.......a number of years ago we had an NJRC member who had NJ collected snails in his tank. Over a couple years, he'd occasionally break out in rashes, and a couple times...
A very common compass rose design typically hung on a wall. My guess is a Sandy washout from a beach house. Here are two examples of them for sale:

Two four foot Perfecto lights up for grabs. I used these over a 75 gallon freshwater tank, but will also fit a 55. Good for a saltwater FO or FOWL. One has a brand new bulb. Pickup in Sayreville.
Wow Bill, great to hear from you. Well I guess I can sit back and put my feet up knowing you're on board. With the two of use, Erna and Doug can enjoy their vacation without worries. This is what this club is about.....take note new(er) members....get involved.
Erna....another old-timer still here...good to see...not that we're old, just aging gracefully. I was at your house when you and Doug hosted a meeting maybe 10-12 years ago...and I'm terrible with time. I'm going to PM my cell phone info in case there is something your tank-sitting friend...
Finding Waldo! Herbie actually had more like 12 powerheads hidden in his tank. What is critical is that you need to overcome what Dana Riddle terms, "The Boundary Layer" for corals to improve growth. This was a great talk by Dana that should be mandatory viewing by all:
