Best food there is bar none.

Mnat, I feed the blackworms almost every day but I am happy if each fish gets at least one. The worms are not as rich as eggs but neither of these foods should be a staple diet. The goal is to get and keep the fish in breeding condition and these foods provide the fish oil they need for that...

Best food there is bar none.

These are just for a suppliment, not a staple food it is much too rich and your skimmer will overflow so you need to watch it for an hour or so

Best food there is bar none.

Now I know that I have always said that the best all around food for our animals is whole fish followed by blackworms, but I lied. :( Live blackworms is actually the third best food. The absolute best food for our animals, bar none, not even if you go to Mars is Salmon eggs. Salmon happens to...

    Live Black worms

Blange, did you see the picture I posted above of that large cup coral after eating black worms? I feed them to it almoat every day and the thing has grown immensely since I have been doing that. I may start eating those worms myself :P Well, maybe I will stick to fish oil pills. ;D

    Live Black worms

I know I talk alot about blackworms, (I know I talk a lot anyway) But I have been feeding these things to my fish since Nixon was President, (just after Lincoln) They are filled with the correct oil our fish need and I personally would not be able to have a tank of breeding fish if it were not...

    Adding bacteria from the sea

They actually had bacteria in a bottle 20 years ago to start tanks. I don't really know anything about the product but I do have my doubts as to how long bacteria will live in a bottle with no oxygen or food. Bacteria is an animal but I am no bacterioligist so I guess my opinion doesen't mean...

    Adding bacteria from the sea

I don't know if we talked back in 2006. As for seahorses I collected a bunch last year on the south shore of LI

    Adding bacteria from the sea

Yes that was me, I collected them last year on the south side of LI. Pipefish outnumber seahorses about fifty to one.

    Adding bacteria from the sea

I collected a load of seahorses last summer on the south side of Long island. But pipefish outnumber the seahorses about 20 to 1. I plan to collect a lot more this summer.

    Algae trough

It works on the same principle that algae is healthy to have in a tank with a few minor differences. First off it is free to operate and takes no space. It uses waste light that would go to illuminating the rear of the tank where I don't want it and algae prefers to grow in it due to better...

    Algae trough

Phyl, the screen is plastic window screen from any hardware store. I first sanded it by putting it on a table and using medium sandpaper on it to roughin it up a little. Then I mix a little Sakrete mortar mix and smear it on. Very little sticks but it makes algae grow much faster. The fence post...

    Algae trough

I don't think too many people use an algae trough, I know a lot of people use lighted refugiums though. The Idea of the trough is that it is free to operate and almost free to build. It is basically a place for algae to grow which has bettter growing conditions that your tank. I use a 4" PVC...

    Adding bacteria from the sea

Hurtback, that was probably me. I have always collected seahorses. I collected about a dozen last year on the south shore of LI. I don't have any now but you are correct, for every seahorse you collect you get two dozen pipefish. I collected this pair, the female is transfering the eggs to the...

    Adding bacteria from the sea

Mike, nice, I still have some of those dead corals. That tank I showed is still running, that is my reef now, I just transfered it all into a 100 gallon tank. I still collect that stuff ;D But do you know why they originally put slate bottoms on tanks? Those tanks came out in the 1800s, people...

Maybe you should tell NASA about those bags, instead of expensive space suits, they could send us to Mars with one of those bags on our head. ;D
