    Jgraz's march to 200DD

I think that tank needs some water! I like the open-ness of the rock. Doesn't look like the Berlin Wall (for those who remember that.) The open aspect gives the fish plenty of spaces to swim in and out and hide. Nice! And James, I didn't know what you were talking about with the...

    Funny

....And left the wife at home. I think what is funny about this is that you go to the beach and end up taking pictures of your refractometer. Nice picture, by the way, with the waves breaking in the background. Paul B would be asking for the pictures of the super models! Anyway, 1.025...

    Clowns

Krista, are they all from the same brood? And have they "sexed" themselves yet? And is there an anemone in the tank? I attempted to introduce a second pair (already sexed) into my five foot 90 gallon (which had an anemone), and it was World War III right from the get-go. I had to...

    Power Strip Decisions

George, if you have access to your electrical panel (like an unfinished basement) and easy access either above or below the fish room, putting in another box isn't that difficult. Now if the panel is in a finished area and access to the fish room is surrounded by finished rooms, then it's a...

Classklown's 14g Sps AND zoa paradise

This is not true. The bleach you buy can be any of a dozen or more oxidizing agents. The old school answer was that it was sodium hypochlorite.....but today it could be any or a number of oxidizers. Read the label!

    Dan's 150 Rebuild

I thought is was Quinine Sulfate....which by the way is a rather potent bactericidal drug. It has killed or is inhibiting the growth of bacteria on your pellets. I think it's as simple as that.

Oh no he didn't, oh yes he did 180 gal build

I said the same thing about a fish I saw in California....but no shovels were involved. Eventually found out is was a Garibaldi....one of the damselfish.....and very common around San Diego.

    Florida Bans Lionfish

Quote for HERE: The red and black dots are locations in the Atlantic Ocean where lionfish have been reported as of May 2003. Notice that sightings are few north of Cape Hatteras. Because lionfish are normally found in subtropical and tropical waters, their distribution is limited in the...

    Dan's 150 Rebuild

I hope so....mine has been in water since I set it up. It's just polyethylene (or one of it's cousins), is my guess. Safe to use in tanks.

    Dan's 150 Rebuild

If your reactor is external, aluminum foil is a good choice. However, if you reactor is sitting in saltwater, not a good choice. Go with a plastic cover....like the drain pipe.

    Dan's 150 Rebuild

Home Depot....a wopping seven dollars for a ten foot section. Where the seam is, I used black electrical tape to keep the reactor in total darkness and zip tied the pipe in place. You don't need that fancy door setup I have....just carefully cut with a knife and the friction will keep it closed.

    Dan's 150 Rebuild

Just letting you know what the ideal condition is for biopellets (actually the bacteria)....total darkness. I wrapped my reactor with drain pipe (picture with door open): I had to buy a ten foot section of drain pipe....if your reactor is four inches in diameter and you're in the area...

    Dan's 150 Rebuild

It's not the biopellets that remove the phosphates and nitrates....it's the bacteria that consume the P and N and then get "exported" out of you tank by your skimmer. It doesn't happen overnight....it takes time for the bacteria to populate the pellets. Give it time. Works even better...
