    Biopellet Reactor Help

But John and Mike, you’re still talking fractions. I need total tank volume to volume of biopellets. John, your “John Warner” recommendation of 500mls is for how much tank volume? And Mike, I need tank volume to volume of biopellets. Thanks.

    Biopellet Reactor Help

Thanks for the replys guys, but where did you find your “recommend dose?” BRS says 1 ½ cups (355mls) biopellets for a 75 gallon DT, so, for a 90, that would be a target dose of pellets of 1.8 cups (426 mls). Another site states five times total water volume in gallons for the mls of...

    Biopellet Reactor Help

I will be purchasing Mike S’s JNS biopellet reactor (Thanks Mike), and this is all new for me. I’ve been reading, but I would like to hear first-hand experience. I have a 90 gallon DT with a 40 breeder sump and I’m currently running a BRS dual GFO/Carbon reactor. First thing is that I’ve...

    Two part dosing question

Disclaimer: Every tank is different in its carbonate demand. The brand of salt you us, the volume and frequency of water changes, and the amount of hard corals and clams will impact the amount of alk and calc needed to keep everyone happy. I’m also assuming these are the 1.1 ml per...

Can't seem to keep my alk stable

My dosing pumps do it three times through the night for both alk and calc.....and not at the same time; they are separated by hours.

Can't seem to keep my alk stable

I don’t think you mentioned your salt, but the inconsistent or fluctuating levels of calc in ReefCrystals is why I’m weaning my tank off of ReefCrystals. One batch was so high in calc, I didn’t dose calc for two months…only alk. So I’m not surprised that one would be low while the other is...

    Magnesium problems

TWO GALLONS OF MAG! IN TWO WEEKS! STOP DOSING NOW. I think I'm still on my first gallon of magnesium I made four or five years ago. Something is wrong with the testing and my guess is that the Red Sea kit for magnesium requires five additions of one drop each of Reagent A, shaking for...

Can't seem to keep my alk stable

There are a number of parameters that impact dosing volumes of two-part. That being said, the volumes you are dosing are in line with the volume of water. Note that Brightwells two part is more concentrated than others (B-Ionic and Randy’s two part), with the alkalinity portion at 3000...

Can't seem to keep my alk stable

Do you have a clam or clams? How much alk and calc are you dosing? And your mag is a touch on the low side. And as far as the chemistry of the alk portion, it is either sodium bicarbonate or sodium carbonate. It is very stable and accordingly will last forever. So it doesn't "go bad."

    Black glass?

At Home Depot for 97 cents per can! This is what I used to paint the back of my tank back in 2008. If you actually want black glass, I almost have to believe it is a specialty item requiring individual manufacturing (and at a tremendous cost).

    Need help leaking bulkhead

Now there’s a first…..KY jelly. I believe KY is a carboxymethlycellulose (CMC) where it is a pinch of this CMC and the rest is all water (probably 97-98 percent water.) It is only a temporary lubricant for as long as the water is there. Once the water evaporates, no more lubricant...

    Need help leaking bulkhead

What kind of lube? Petroleum based lubes cause the rubber to swell and eventually fail. Non petroleum lubes should only be used sparingly. If I use a lube on a bulkhead gasket, I put it on and then pretty much wipe off as much as I can. If there is too much lube, the gasket squeezes...
