Prestone Driveway Heat.....an ice melt product....calcium chloride. Dissolve two cups in RO/DI water and bring up to one gallon.....again, the B-Ionic recipe. The problem might be finding an ice melt product now since it's seasonal.
EDIT TO ADD: BRS also sells a calcium chloride HERE...
LMAO…..(sorry for your loss)……I read this as if you were doing something, and accidentally hit the heater with a hammer.
I thought you had a controller??? Maybe Reef Angel?
Edwin! What did you do? You hit your heater with a hammer??? I’m going to come over there and confiscate all tools from you. Geewiz, city boy! I do have to ask…..what were you trying to hit with the hammer when you hit your heater?
You certainly can use straight baking soda….especially if you have relatively high pH. However, if your pH is running on the low side, cook it first. Put 2 ¼ cups of Baking Soda on a cookie sheet and cook it in the oven at 300 degrees for an hour. Let it cool a little….doesn’t have to...
So 25 mls in 3785 mls (one gallon) comes out to 0.66 mls per 100 mls of tank water. Even though I haven’t seen any scientific studies on Bayer, that seems to be a touch on the low side. Again, the YouTube was 0.8 mls per 100 mls of tank water. I’ve also read others who do super strength...
John, what dilution of Bayer are you using? The original YouTube I saw, the guy used 8 mls in a liter of tank water. I’ve since rounded it out to make dilutions easier, at 1 ml per 100 mls of tank water. I usually make up 300 mls if I have one to a few frags to dip, and let them soak for...
I believe Tony and Terri have come up with their own recipe, but HERE is Eric Borneman’s recipe for his fish food/coral food for those who are interested. Hopefully if it’s not a secret family recipe, Tony and Terri will post their recipe as well. I’m curious as well….and I’ll be there...
Gee whiz, I thought you were winking at me….giving me the eye. ;)
Palys and zoas have some of the strongest bio-toxins. It would appear that you’ll be making a full recovery, but you’re right about notifying newbies about how toxic these little buggers are. Even out of water they can...
Skimmers produce bubbles. I’m not familiar with your skimmer, but I’d say you would want at least a two baffle trap. I have only a two baffle trap in my sump......SWC 160 skimmer.
Got it. It's been a number of years since I've used this and just did a quick peek, and your right. After adding in a couple elbows and unions, a MAG 5 looks like a good choice.
That seems a bit low for a four or five foot rise and a couple elbows and unions. How far away is you sump...and what is you plumbing plan. Again, I'm guessing, but a 4 - 5 foot rise with a couple elbows are only going to drop you gph to mid 350 - 375 gph.
I’m not familiar with Apex, but for a Reefkeeper, a tenth of a degree is too tight. I originally set my Reefkeeper for a tenth degree, and it sounded like I was at a table tennis competition. I ended up re-setting it at three tenths difference, and everything is fine.
You mention putting in a MAG 5 or 7 with a 300 gph return. You don’t want to exceed the rating of the overflow, and I would guess, unmetered, both this pumps would exceed the overflow.
If you insist on putting in one of these pumps, I would suggest not metering the pump by simply putting...
It doesn’t matter. Whatever is readily available or easiest for you. Don’t believe those negative sooth-sayers who tell you that you need to use glass in a glass sump and acrylic in an acrylic sump. In either case of glass or acrylic, the baffle is physically trapped within the silicone...
