    Painting acrylic?

I made an acrylic cover for my Glass-Holes overflow and used the 98 cent spray paint from Home Depot. That was in 2009. Here it is today still looking brand new. Lightly sand the acrylic before you paint and you'll be just fine.

    Aiptasia!

I had a nano with 50+ aptasia and started using concentrated lemon juice. The issue was with such a small tank I would have ended up with a large bowl of lemonade. So what I did was boil a mug of RO/DI water in the microwave and using a turkey baster cooked the little SOB's. I did this...

    Jebao DC Pump Advice

THIS is disturbing....a new 12000 with multiple leaks in the front cover. I wonder if this is a problem with the 6000 and 9000?

    Dan's Nuvo 16g

Way too new and too small for an RBTA. Might be able to get a mini/maxi in there once the tank matures.

    Jebao DC Pump Advice

Steve, I wonder if using spa-flex eliminates this issue??? I also have spa-flex that I could easily replace a portion of the rigid with the flex pipe. And Dan, I'm on Fish-Street, and there is no 9000.....have 6000 and then 12000.

    Jebao DC Pump Advice

The next energy savings I'm considering for my tank is to switch out the MAG 9.5 return pump I've used since 2008 for a Jebao DC pump. I don't know squat about these pumps and would appreciate any comment. Not sure if I should go for the 6000 or 12000 pump. Also, it looks like a straight...

    Juano's 75 Gallons "The Re-Build"

Very nice Juan. I like the small doors, where you could do daily feeding, and the option to open the whole front to get your hands in the tank.

My tank has 3 leeks on the front glass

I know how you like to add stuff you've caught yourself, and I can only guess you made a trip to Florida and are now adding a manatee to your tank.

    Tank crashed!

Very high alkalinity (at "normal" aquarium pH) greatly reduces the solubility of calcium carbonate....that is, it precipitates out of solution. Let me see if I can find some references for you. EDIT TO ADD: HERE's a reference, but don't read it now....first get your tank back to normal.

    Tank crashed!

I'm out until 6:30 - 7:00...but I'm available all day tomorrow if that helps. Let me know. High alk will drive down calc. I wouldn't worry so much about your low calc right now....you need to get that alk number down.

    Learned my lesson with RBTA's

Ouch! And I've been told the RBTA's don't have as many nematocysts as other anemomes, so their sting isn't too bad. I've never been stung by my nem's, but have had many run-ins with jellyfish, that have the same simple touch nematocysts that sting....even if they're dead! And Phil, I've...

    Bubble trap is it necessary?

It depends on your skimmer. Note, my skimmer is an SWC160. I too have a 40 breeder sump with no bubble traps.....only two baffles. The setup is, from left to right, filter sock and skimmer / return pump (and biopellet reactor) / refugium. I have no bubbles in my return section.

Welcome Cliff. I suggest you start a Tale of the Tank. Although it might be too early to start stocking your tank, you might want to check out our Frag Swap next Saturday. All info is just below our red banner above, under "Frag Swap."

    replacement cartidges

I'd leave the membrane alone and start by replacing the sediment filter and two carbon blocks (ca $25). The resulting TDS would determine if I'd change out the DI resin.
