Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Do you use and rodi unit? Did you change anything else but the salt?
It sounds like something was poisoning the inverts and the corals which could be copper or some other contaminate. I would absolutely switch back to reef crystals if you think the red sea coral pro was an issue.
The 90...
If you jump on Ebay you can find them real cheap, just don't know how good they will be. No idea on the goosenecks, but the reputable ones seem to have no issue holding the bulb.
Look into the blue stripe pipe fish, they will do much better in a reef tank. They are easy to pair as well. We love our yasha goby, they are also really easy to pair (look for the black spot on the pelvic fin, that is a male, the female does not have one). I lean towards the tang police side...
Our host for September is not longer able to host this month. It was a north meeting, but if anyone would like to volunteer to have a house full of amazing reefers. Drop someone on the BOD a line. Thank you.
I went to costco a few months ago and bought a vitamix. Damn expensive, but the thing is a miracle worker. I read the reviews on the ninja 1000 which seemed to be seriously lacking (even though consumer reports gave it a good grade). The bullet received very solid ratings as well.
Wait. What you are dumping in is live bacteria, if there is no food source for it it will die off and can be a waste. Wait until your tank has cleared up and your rock is in with the powerhead running and up to temp. Add the cycle, then within 24 hours add at least a clean up crew or...
Sand and rock will displace water obviously. 20 pouns of sand in a 10g tank is going to displace a lot of volume. Let it clear and you can start your cycle and the whole nine.
I just ordered some of this stuff from Dr. Tims. I have not used it yet and just want to use it to help the tank out overall but it might help with your problem. We talked with him down at MACNA and he convinced me to try it. Worth a shot...
Do you have clowns hosting in the nems or are the alone? When we had nems our clowns would feed them so we did not really worry about it. Some extra food is nice, but really it is not essential (I assume you are talking about bubble tips).
The rock we put in our aquarium has changed so much over the years, that the x pounds per gallon rule has kind of fallen by the wayside. The more pourous (lighter) the better vs the solid base rock type.
Great build and great write up. I can't see the pics here at work so I will have to enjoy them later.
What are your calc and alk testing at? With topping off with kalk and dosing you might want to pick one as with both you can run those numbers pretty high.
Get that DI sooner than later...
