The recipe for Alkalinity, Calcium and Magnesium DIY solutions are referenced in the bottom of the OP…..from Randy Holmes Farley. To quickly summarized the Calc part, simply mix 2 ½ cups of Dow Flakes (an ice melt product that is really hard to find) with one gallon of RO/DI water. An...
Well I've found that when my tape measure is out of calibration, a little scotch with a splash of RO/DI water over ice usually brings the calibration right back in place. :topsy_turvy: :very_drunk:
To paraphrase Warner, think of the biopellets as having three arms. One arm takes a carbon, one takes a phosphate and one takes a nitrogen (nitrate). It takes all three for the “reaction” to work. If one is missing, it won’t work.
So if there is no nitrates, no more phosphate will be...
Jon Warner had a nice short and sweet talk about biopellets at the swap. I specifically asked this question, and yes you can run GFO along with biopellets….especially in the case of excess phosphate.
Bad news.....I don't think I'll need to upgrade....when I put the guy in the tank, he just floated on his back. I'm now trying to flush him down the toilet, and it's not going well!
Forever.
NO! However, by cooking the baking soda (sodium bicarbonate), you have made sodium carbonate....the same thing as soda ash. So use the same dilution factor that you were using with the BRS soda ash.
I suggest that you still do water changes….but first a few more questions. What is your target salt concentration? Do you use a swing arm or refractometer to measure salt concentration? And if it is a refractometer, do you calibrate with RO/DI or with calibration fluid (1.026)?
This...
It was time to cook up a little more Alk, and I thought I’d share my experience in the kitchen. I purposely don’t want to mention that “C” word, because I think many are scared away when they hear that word.
If you’re a two part user, this is an easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy recipe that anyone...
