I just killed the sandbed on my 10g Xenia specific as it was causing cyano probs. But I never maintained it as its my 'what happens in the tank stays in the tank' tank.
Conversly, I churn the sand and blow off the rock in my 25g zoa tank every other day with a baster and it's pristine, no cyano...
